Why has Loki started doing this? It looks far from normal! It mainly happens if we're having floor time or if he's feeling particularly playful. He rolls onto his back and twists from side to side and his eyes go weird! Can you tell this is my first pet? I have no idea what's 'normal' but can safely say, this does not look like it

Harley used to do this lots as a pup, and still does on occasions at the age of 4.5 years old! I think it’s really cute

If he's twisting around like he's scratching his back, he's probably just playing, eyes can go wider when dogs get a bit excited, when Monty rarely rolls on his back I know he wants a tummy scratch, and rub, I swear he's grinning at me. Pretty sure this is normal.

Oh yes! This is a little Joy move! She also does it so that the sitting room curtains get twisted round her head like a turban. She usually wants a tummy rub and goes to sleep fairly soon afterwards. It's sort of replaced the zoomies for now.

Our boy does this, and has since he was a pup. He sleeps like this too! And will hold toys in his front paws and play laying on his back. Labs definitely don't lack character
I'm most definitely learning that they're full of character haha! I'm just so glad my pup isn't the only one that does this. I guess it means he's settling well and happy at least x
Absolutely! Being on their back like that puts them in quite a vulnerable position so he must be feeling comfortable.
You might already be aware of it but in the photo it looks like your pup has got a hernia. Probably a good idea to mention it to your vet at the next visit and seek his/her advice. One of mine had a hernia which the vet repaired when she was 18 months.
Ah ok, no i would have had no idea! I took him for a full vet check last week and nothing was mentioned. He is due his 2nd vaccinations tomorrow so will ask the vet to have another look. Thank you x
Vets are usually not overly concerned by a hernia. Sometimes a hernia will diasappear as the puppy grows. But occasionally they need to be repaired by surgery. My girl had hers repaired when she was spayed.
