    Hello,

We're bringing home our new black boy Rocket next week aged 8 weeks.

I've read Pippa's advice on toilet training and we are planning to use method 2 - a play pen with bed at one end and paper at the other for toileting. We will need to do this because there will be times of about 2-3 hours sometimes when he will be on his own. What I am confused about is this; do we expect Rocket to only use the paper and then once his paper is often clean dry for 3 hours then introduce the outdoor toilet area.... Or do we train him to use the outdoor area from day 1 and only go on the paper when confined to the pen?

Thanks for your advice....we are first time dog owners.

    I'd go with this.

Yes, whenever you are with the pup take him outdoors for his toiletting, use the pen and paper when you are out :)

Take him out after he wakes up, after play, food, drink etc. He will need to go often as their bladders are very small. Make sure you make a big fuss of him when he goes outside as this will help him realise this is where to go.

Take him outside every 10-15 minutes at first- you can slowly lengthen this amount of time, but you'll be amazed at how often he needs to go!!

The thing to remember is --- they all get there in the end. You may go through times of thinking he never will be housetrained, but the day will come! And you have the better weather :)hmm: , lets hope) coming which helps.

Thanks everyone! That is great advice which I will certainly take. Soooo excited to collect the little boy himself....here is a cheeky pic of him as a 4 week old (the last time I saw him as so far away).
    Fur baby:heart:
