I've been saying it in a way that I would imagine Antonio Banderas would say it "carra-bon-nay" (rolling the 'Rs' of course) :D. It sounds so much more romantic :D

Oh I'm so happy!! He looks a lovely dog Emily (of course they all are...), and he really deserves a good home. I'm sure he'll be very happy with you as his foster mum.

Yes to the Renaming Competition!!! You could call him Carbo (a Roman general).

Rodrigo! That's a nice, strong, Spanish name, and there are heaps of good (and not so good) Rodrigos to say you named him after :D

I think Carbon is a great name for a black Labrador.

I’m so pleased that Carbon is getting a home, even if you decide it’s not permanent.

So pleased to hear you are fostering Carbon. I have been following your thread and hoping he would find a home, albeit a temporary one.

I'm so happy for Carbon and you! He is so lovely. Carbon (charcoal; coal) makes sense for a black dog! You could go with Cole, that sounds exactly like Coal and the internet tells me it means "A trendy, yet classic boys' name meaning "coal black".

So many great messages - I love some of the names - thank you! :)

I'll reply when I can. Today is a bit of an adventure in that I took out Carbon for good and Paul came along as well (temporarily) as there is a huge rain storm and I just couldn't bear to leave him at the shelter. Then Miry called and Garfield has to come back late tonight as his adopter changed his mind. Full house craziness!

I would call him Ramon, but ~I do like Carrr-Bone - I say it in a deep voice when I read it now.

I'm so pleased you will still be involved with Carbon, great name for a black lab I think. I'd like to know that he ends up somewhere he deserves, he's such a lovely looking dog and this way we'll all know. I did like those little brown puppies too!

    Or Coal? ;)

It all works. I've started calling Carbon "Carboncito", which is kind of like saying "cute little chunk of coal". I think he's going to have lots of names and pronunciations by the time this is all over. And I've totally abandoned "Power" or the Spanish pronunciation of "Paul" and he now answers to my bog standard American version of "Paul". But maybe he would like the French version? Que classe!

    JUST fostering now. :D

Everything sounds better if you imagine it with an Antonio Banderas/Puss in Boots accent. He's from Malaga (only a couple hours away), so it's even authentic to the region.

I like the Roman idea but "Carbo" makes me think of dieting (counting carbs). But that's probably just me with my endless waistline battles who would have that thought. I was kind of thinking something Italian would be cool, like "Enzo" or "Renzo". He's kind of got that Italian smooth-talking charm, does Carbon.

Oo, I love this! Even though it's Welsh, it's ticking my celtic name fetish. Plus he could be "Winnie" sometimes. :)

It has sort of grown on me as it is now come to mean the little black Lab that I've come to know. I don't think it's horrible (not like "Power") I just like human names for dogs vs. object names.

Well, definitely permanent in the sense that he's NOT going back into the shelter. So no matter who becomes his forever family, he's flown the jailyard for good. :)

Thank you, Kate. Great to see you again on the Forum.

Yep, you're talking about Garfield, right? I've not even shared the weirdest part of the whole Garfield saga which is that the animal communicator that Miry is working with has been VERY involved of late. And let me tell you, some of the stuff that Garfield "tells" her is spooky. I really felt as if I had a little spy in the house. I mean, he tells her what food he likes and doesn't and it corresponds to when he eats it all or not. Freaky! Anyway, Garfield told her that he wanted to stay with Miry forever, but if not Miry, then me. He also said (before the adoption) that the adopter looked like he was a flake (paraphrasing). I guess he was right about that. And understand, the communicator is in MADRID and has never even met Garfield.

Anyway, update is that Garfield didn't come in late last night as planned but is coming in tonight. I'll do my best with him and the dogs and we'll just see what happens.

Honestly, I just spent most of yesterday trying to keep Paul from destroying my house. His mouth is a downright menace. Luckily I'd bought lots of toys for Carbon and there was enough to share. I just kept removing whatever shouldn't be in his mouth and re-directing to a chew or toy. Carbon is MUCH easier and immediately figured out what toys and chews are for. It's early days so I anticipate he will try for inappropriate items again, but so far he's adapting far easier than I thought he would.

I did get a cute video of Paul playing with a new bone, so I'll try to upload that soon. :)

It's not just me supporting him (maybe more on that at a later time) but rest assured he will definitely get to a great home.

It's certainly helped take my mind of my own troubles, that's for sure! :D
