That sounds like a very positive and swift reply from the trainer. I hope things improve for the GSP.

It sounds very positive, hopefully with kindness to her, the woman will show kindness to her dog.

I'd like to think it will work like this.

I haven't seen her before, the trainer runs classes on 2 different sites and you can go to whichever suits, I go alternate weeks, it's not a pay for so many sessions set up. So maybe I won't have to see it every time I go.

I said to the trainer that if she finds me crying in a corner this will be why -- I myself find it hard to function with the sound a voice like that, let alone the dog.

I’m glad you managed to talk to the trainer and find out the situation. Hopefully you won’t have to see her much and hopefully your trainer can help improve the situation with her dog x

That's a good outcome and hopefully for the GSP too. With the positive input from the trainer, friend and other owners hopefully the owner will see the light. It put your mind at rest too. :) x

She sounds like a pretty perfect trainer.
I do hope it all rubs off on the woman in question x

I go to an ultra positive trainer - possibly the most positive gundog trainer in the UK, actually, not much 'possibly' about it.

Today, a student I've trained with for about 3 years, pushed her dog with her boot when it wouldn't sit - this was really surprising, particularly in this class - it's just not done. I know this isn't up there with the most harsh handling that one can observe in a traditional gundog class, but I was pretty outraged given the dog is a very sensitive one, and a boot push is a pretty crap thing to do, and voiced my opinion loud enough for everyone to overhear.

Later, we discussed it - everyone together. And this student did this because she was feeling very self conscious and under stress that her dog wouldn't sit (in an advanced class) and 'reverted to her first learning' that was to use pressure and aversive control (she is a cross over trainer, and carries the baggage from previous history of using aversives).

I get that, and understand. I was still glad I spoke up and we discussed it though - I don't think you should let things go without comment, but it's good to understand the human end of the lead too....

She is very good, I like her very much. She's really got a handle on the human element, well worth the journey on alternate Sarurdays. I'd do more with her if I lived closer, but I'm waiting to hear back from the young man who's started +R classes very locally to me, he sounds lovely too. I will carry on with the class I go too now for basics, but am looking forward to trying other things like agility and scentwork with the new one if all goes well.
