Over the last day or so Bagheera hasn't really eaten much at all. He gets excited for breakfast and dinner but when I put it down he sniffs it and wonders off. He will eat a couple of mouthful but that's it and his crying or winging all the time. Have no idea what's wrong with him. Any ideas please otherwise it's back to the vets. Tia

First of all check the food hasn’t gone off. Try a new packet.

Not wanting their usual meals seems pretty common, Maisy went through a spell of this and I got lots of advice from this forum. I added some interesting things to her meal - dog gravy, bits of chicken, sardines etc. this helped a bit but I also spread her dried food over the floor and in the garden, played find it with it (although sometimes she didn't want it then either). I tried changing the food type but that did not help either and it was not from the bottom of the bag or out of date. I would not worry about going hungry, they will eat when they need it, Maisy is pretty much ok now but it lasted for a few months. It sounds like Bagheera has an appetite if he is excited about meals but of course if you are worried and think it is something else seek the vets advice.

He's fine in himself still playing fetch and find with the kids. It's a fresh bag of food may try speaking it over the floor. Thank you

Thank you everyone, we have had a similar problem with nearly 9month old Mason. Not been keen on breakfast (eats sometimes after walk) not today though!
Tea has been getting later and later but just tried adding bits of ham and he just ate the ham! Tried find it and tail wagged and after few find it’s he ate all his tea

Think I will put some chicken or ham in and see what he's like. He eats it out of my hand.

    What are these dogs like?
He has been fine with K9 for few months but last couple of weeks been not keen has eaten it much later though. I do worry when it warms up though.
Mason ate the ham and left the kibble this morning.
I thought Labradors loved their food?

I think my lab is just bored of his food. He will eat it but it takes him ages to eat his breakfast. His dinner is still sitting in his bowl. He's at the vets tomorrow so will speak with them. Hope your pup starts eating asap

Hi I suppose that is a possibility. But it’s a bit of a worry don’t you think?
Luckily Mason is still active and happy though. Masons breakfast is half eaten and yesterday it took till 5.10pm to eat anything.
I hope you get on well at the vets and I would like to know how you get on if possible

Bagheera is still active and playing also so the vets aren't worried as he's still happy and has gained weight. We've had a bit of a change at home so I think that might be why. Hope mason starts eating better soon x

Hi I’m glad to hear Bagheera is playing and is still active and the vets aren’t too worried what a relief.
I see I hope things are ok. We too have had our little problems and this could also be the reason.
He ate so well tonight thank you thank goodness for bits of ham/chicken and cheese.

Thank you me to. We are having our garden done so had to restrict where he can go so he's not happy about that. If I give him ham chicken cheese he will wolf that down in a second lol. He's just gotta get use to the change. The vet said if he's still like it by Monday then they want to see him. X

    Your welcome.
Ah bless him, it will be worth it I’m sure. He sounds such a lovely dog.
    Sounds fair enough

He is lovely but at a testing point. He's trying to push my limits to see how far he can go and it's driving me mad. As for eating his settled now.

I’m sure he is I know what you mean the last couple of weeks have been tricky. Feels like I’m talking to a brick wall.
What kinda things is he doing?
I’m glad the eating thing has settled down that’s a relief I’m sure

We have had ruled from day one that we have stuck to so he knows them but pushing it to see if we cave lol. Apparently most labs do this. He doesn't come when I call him or if we see another dog not even a treat will get his attention. Think we need to go back to basic training with him.

Have you got the book ‘Total Recall’?

I can’t recommend it highly enough. I’ve trained six pups now using its methods and all have left me at 12 months old with 100% perfect recall.

    :)

I have heard of it a few times and I think I'm gonna have to give it a try. Nothing else seems to have worked. Thank you
