So I noticed a raw area on Simba’s lip the other day - I thought he had scraped it somehow. But taking a closer look today I don’t think so. It looks like some kind of growth. Taking him to the vet this afternoon to see what I can find out. I suspect it might’ve some kind of oral wart but best to let the vet have a look. I’ll keep you posted...
Just got back from vet’s. He doesn’t think it is a wart as it is too flat. He is thinking it is a staph infection, similar to what he had before but not as bad (thankfully). Have a course of antibiotics and hopefully that will do the trick. He’s going to the kennel this weekend but they are really good there so they will be able to manage giving him the pills.
Staph infection - do they do a scraping to diagnose? My boy got little bumps on the top of the boney part of his nose last week. Vet said probably allergic reaction to insect bite or plant. Just clean it and apply steroid cream. But then I noticed another area on his muzzle - of course after the vet visit! - that is pink and flat. Vet didn’t notice it either. Not quite like in your pic. I thought I’d wait a few days, might be connected to the bumps. She said if they don’t clear up in 10 days to go back. So I’ll monitor the flat pink area, too. Let us know how your boy gets on.
I had no idea dogs could get staph infections like this. Poor guy. I hope he's on the mend with his antibiotics.
Technically, yes, to definitely diagnose they should do a test. But the vet has seen lots of this and going by experience this was his best educated guess. He has had it before, on the top of his nose, (which he said is usually where they get it), so perhaps they have a bit of a predisposition to it? Not sure about that. We’ll go through the course of antibiotics and hope it does the trick. If not, back to see the vet and dog a little deeper. I’ll post an update once we get back from the weekend away Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone. I’ll let you know how it goes.
