Oh poor Stanley. No food Yes and no. Most of the time there's less mystery when your kid gets sick. It's not nice to see them unwell but at the same time you know it's just a cold or a bug or whatever so you know how to help and you know what's next. When it's your dog, you have no idea what is wrong. You know they're unwell but they can't tell you what hurts and you have no idea how to help.
Can’t wait to hear how the vet visit went. I hope Stanley feels better after his starvation experience.
Hope Stanley has been ok overnight and the vet to the vet today can shed a light on why he has been sick.
We made it through the night with no more sick which is good. We had a little sleepover on the couch and he cuddled in really close all night so I think he’s feeling a bit sorry for himself. His little face this morning when he realised he wasn’t getting his breakfast I could’ve cried! I can’t take him to the vets unfortunately, so OH is going with a strict list of things to discuss and is under instructions to ring me during the appointment so I can speak to the vet. Hopefully he’s just had an upset stomach and it will be reset and I’m sure he’ll be on chicken and rice for a few days which will make him happy
Well as usual OH was useless and just got walked all over by the vet. He “can’t really remember” what they said and didn’t ring me. Honestly I’m so angry with him. But they’re not sure what’s up.. maybe something with his pancreas. They’ve given him some stuff to put on his food and he’s on chicken and rice for a few days. If he’s no better, I don’t know how long we’re supposed to give him to improve, then he has to go back for blood tests. I personally would’ve said I wanted to the blood tests today, especially with us going away in 4 days but if he’s sick anymore I’m leaving work and going straight to the vets.
I’ve just spoken to the vet. They said it’s a possibility that it is pancreatitis but right now she thinks it’s just an upset tummy. He had no temperature, his tummy felt normal and he had no pain. She said if he’s sick anymore to take him straight back but right now she’s really not worried as he was fine in himself and wanting to eat so that’s good. So we’ll just see. I’ve told my boss that if he’s sick anymore I’m going home and I’m sorting it!
Next time get your OH to record the conversation with the vet on his phone. But if he forgot to phone you, I guess he’d forget that, too. I’d also be upset! Why would the vet think it’s pancreatitis? That sounds like reaching the most drastic conclusion. Would Stanley be prone to getting pancreatitis? Usually the dog would be predisposed, like if he were on specific meds, or had a specific illness. But in a young dog like Stanley? I’d be very annoyed with the vet creating such worry without first investigating less serious possible causes, like a tummy bug. Of course anything is a possibility. But why cause worry now? Sending Stanley best wishes for a very quick recovery.
I think it’s just the on and off sickness that’s made her consider it as a possibility. Apparently dogs that have a history of dietary indiscretion (aka will eat anything) can be more prone to it. Hopefully this stuff will sort him out, I just get so worried about my poor lad.
Your OH might have been a bit useless, but at least he took him. Mine can't go into the consulting room - he faints Stanley will be delighted to get chicken & rice.
Wish I could make it all better, for the boy and for you too , come on sweetheart , lets have you well again xxxxxxxx
Oh, sorry, but this made me chuckle! Your OH looks like such a "boy's boy", burly type I can't imagine him getting faint at the vet's! Is it a fear of needles or something else?
I’ve just checked on my camera and OH has gone out. Honestly, that man. He was in charge of my baby for one day! I should start calling him DH but rather than dear husband it will be dead husband
