Penny will be a year old next week and her insurance is coming to an end. I only took out a years insurance to start with. Any advice in the best ones. Is it a lifetime insurance. I have already spent hundreds in her first year (emergency op for paw wound and treatment). Thanks for any advice x
I have used Pet Plan for the last 35 years and am happy with it. However, as you have had some problems in your dog's first year, if you change insurance providers, they probably will not insure you for those previous complaints. Maybe best to stay with your present insurer.
Absolutely agree with @Stacia, if you have already claimed, then those and often associated pathologies will be excluded. Just had this conversation with Petplan yesterday.
Thanks. I havent claimed i just paid the bill. My fault but i felt overwhelmed and felt they made it hard to claim so i would change to someone else x
Ah..still check, because even if you haven't claimed, it is still classed as a pre-existing condition.
How much cover is enough..is £3000 a year for treatment enough at this stage...the quotes go up and obviously the price..OMG its a minefield xx
That very much depends on what might go wrong. I don't think that would be enough to cover hip replacement, for instance.
Any previous condition will not be covered by a new insurer, they will question your ver! Check with your present insurer, they may well pay in retrospect,
I am covered for lifetime for up to £7k with Petplan. When my girl turned one I upgraded (I had a lesser amount of cover and 'accident only' with them). I upgraded because I kept worrying that something big might happen and I'd be caught out. When I upgraded they asked if there had been any problems and I said she'd had eye problems as a little pup. I never claimed the bills back, just paid up. But they said her eyes weren't covered until after a year of the last vet visit connected to her eyes.
