I had a bit of a strange one on my morning run with Willow yesterday. The details are boring, but a guy in a white van pulled up to ask me directions (when there was no choice of which way he had to go, as we were on a narrow dirt track in the middle of nowhere) and creeped me out looking between me and Willow. You know when you feel generally uneasy for no obvious reason? When he drove off, I changed my plans to carry on running along the drivable track and nipped into the forest and onto the trails instead. I may have been doing him an incredible disservice (in which case he'll never know anyway), but I'd rather be overly cautious than end up with either me or my dog being stolen!!
Everyone do be careful... @snowbunny wisely would rather deal with the wild boar than a potential kidnapper!!!
I met a man whose two dogs had been stolen at a dog event. They were in his van, in a crate but the van door was open. He was chatting a few metres away. A van drove up, parked next to his, looking just like another competitor, whipped the dogs out of the back and drove off with them.
This worries me to death. My deceased Labrador would not have let himself be stolen, but I think Rourke would not put up a fight
Its terrifying , I get quite paranoid about it especially as Nelly would be so easy to pick up . I feel so sorry for the owners , I miss Sam more than I can say, but at least I know what happened to him , whereas to always wonder must be terrible x
This was my absolute greatest fear with Brogan as well. After he passed and I got his ashes back, that was my one consolation, that he'd been with me his whole life and I got him to the end safely. The idea of not knowing what had happened to your dog...my worst nightmare.
Fiona, that's more than "a bit of a strange one". Be careful, ok? Lots of dog theft down here, too - puppies grabbed out of arms, dogs snatched from cars, stolen while waiting outside a shop - and the classic "car stolen with dog inside". I don't know how common theft from gardens is, those ones don't make the news. The not knowing would drive me crazy. I always think of Madeleine McCann's parents, and the parents of other abducted children. I don't think I could live with the not knowing if something happened to my daughter. I'm also grateful that I've been able to put my cats to sleep when it was their time. Cats are notorious for taking themselves off somewhere to die - I was particularly worried that Daisy would do that, so it was a relief of sorts that she didn't.
N NO trust you gut always. We make excuses and try to polite but if a person makes your alarms bells go off trust it. I'm very sensitive living were i do and I listen to my instincts it saves me.
Someone stopped my MIL once by pulling up next to her and getting out of the car. He asked where she’d bought Stanley as he was looking for a gun dog and Stanley looked perfect. MIL explained that he wasn’t her dog and she didn’t know, and he offered her £1000 for him. She said no and he kept pushing and saying take my number and they might sell me him. She said he definitely would not be for sale and walked off, but she picked Stanley up and was thinking in her head if you try and take this dog you’re taking me with him
In a Village not too far from me, a house was broken into the puppies were stolen and the the Mummy left behind Sometimes I hate some humans and the depths they stoop too. xx
For me the world is generally a scary place, that is the default I wake up with every morning and work to align it to a more functioning model but we have a HUGE problem with dogs being stolen for dog fighting in our city and it makes me beyond paranoid with Harley. Harley doesn't have access to the driveway and our property is enclosed with electric gates and an 8 ft boundary wall and palisade fencing. And we have a dedicated security patrol but still. It would completely shatter me if I didn't know where she was. And I am completely there with you @JenBainbridge, I will turn into a combination of Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington.
That is a lot of security. What city do you live in?? My wife's purse was taken at a banquet we attended last week, but generally we don't worry much about our security, or our dogs.
I live in Atlantic Canada and there is a known dog theif who drives hundreds of miles of territory stealing the country dogs and then selling them from her vehicle at mall parking lots in the bigger towns and cities. She was also arrested more than once for running mills and selling dogs with parvo. Her face is all over the internet and regardless of the arrests she keeps operating. I know several of friends neighbors in other communities who have chased her off. This crazy home wrecker just won’t give it up. We never let Duggan out of our sight knowing she and other are out there.
