Last night during the massive thunderstorm Homer managed to tear off one of his front claws. He was staying overnight with his dog sitter and managed to scratch through a door. As its Sunday and tomorrow is a Bank holiday I'll only be able to take him to the vet on Tuesday to have it checked out. He tore a nail a few years ago and the vet prescribed painkillers and to keep it clean and wait for the new nail to grow.

But I cannot recall the dose of paracetamol.

Hi, I have been to the vets yesterday as Maisy cut the pad on her heel, she recommended half a tablet twice a day as a pain killer if needed. Maisy is 14months and weighs about 28kg. Poor Homer, hope this helps. Why is it always bank holidays or weekends?

Always on Bank holiday weekends! last time he tore is claw was over the same weekend three years ago.

I rang the emergency vet who would charge £140 to see him today. The receptionist suggested we wait to see how he gets on. The most painful part would be when he actually ripped it. So a quiet day for us all today. Hopefully no more thunder and the dog sitter forgives us.

Sorry to hear this, no advice on the paracetamol but I was thinking of Homer in the early hours as thunder and lightning crashed around here for hours, @Jes72, poor him. :(

There's more thunder on the way. You can use kalpol but I would only do that with an ok from your vet. For Moo we used 1/2 a paracetamol once,a day for pain relief she weighed 26kgs.

Your thoughts are very much appreciated.
We are avid weather watchers at the moment, with Lightening Maps being on of my favourite apps on my phone. There are still huge thunderstorms all over Europe and Turkey.

Homer has spent all day being very quiet and sleeping. He’s moved around the house from time to time and drunk water but not interested in asking for dinner or walks. I’m not surprised as he must have had one hell of a night. Will keep a close eye on him and the weather.

He must be exhausted. I hope the storms abate and he can get some rest.

Oh no poor Homer, Mabel is 25kg and the specialist said she is allowed 500mg of human paracetamol. 250mg in the morning and the same in the evening. Hope that helps.

Homer is 35kg so I gave him half a tablet. He eventually got up at about 9pm and asked for his dinner. He’s still unnaturally calm but moves from room to room from time to time and did go into the garden to bark at the neighbours cat .

Poor Homer, it must be so distressing inside his head. I hope he feels better soon.
