The heat isn't really affecting Coco, but I guess we haven't got it as hot - currently basking in 21 degrees C this afternoon. We had a fairly warm walk at 8:30am and have done nothing but potter in the garden or the house, with a game of hose this afternoon where everyone got soaked!
Yes, my three are. I swear they want to melt into the cold stone floors. Poor things. I've aimed fans at them while I sit and swelter.
Oh dear...I know how you all feel. Our summer was so hot, poor Maxx would just lie chin-down on the cool tiles chomping on ice cubes. I hope it cools down soon It's still getting in the high teens/early 20's here during the day but with cold winds making it seem much cooler. And big drops in the morning and night even down to 8 or 9. Brrr. We have actually decided to visit Europe at the end of next year so we will experience our first cold Christmas!
Yes, Wispa particularly is affected by the heat, so I’ve had to restrict the morning on-lead walk, as she slows down and pants after a while. They then don’t get any energetic playtime or evening walk until it’s cooler. As long as food is delivered on time they seem happy with that!
I'm just saying right it's just a healthy curiosity, right but looking at puppies on line at the moment I just can't believe how many breeders are breeding from parents with massive hip scores and elbow scores which show problems. I just don't get it? They even say fully health tested parents with good scores, sorry no they haven't. I hoped things were getting better and responsible breeding was becoming the norm but no. Anyway feel better now that's off my chest. I'm just disappointed in people who I though were sensible and caring
I have finally attempted to embrace the wonders of frozen kongs. I have just put soaked frozen kibble in them so far and they are great in that they take a good long while to eat. But, I am wondering if the Pig’s technique is rather unusual - I was hoping she would lie down quietly and chew and slurp it all out, which would be perfect to take to the pub to keep her quiet etc. But actually she flings it across the room and drops it from a great height repeatedly until bits fall out. Is this what other dogs do?? I am thinking not pub/cafe friendly as it stands. Also being hit in the face with a flying frozen Kong is actually quite a hazard!
It depends on what I put in...if I freeze something soft like wet food/mashed sweet potato/banana etc she will lay down and lick it out/crunch down on the kong (or sometimes while standing and resting the kong on the couch, which is gross for us/my couch). But if I freeze just kibble or "chunky" things, she licks it a bit, or leaves it to melt slightly, crunches it then bounces the stuff out, and repeats. Try a mushy filling to see if she will lick it!
I'm very proud of Holly. This afternoon we went for a stroll in the woods. The weather was just too nice to stay indoors and do DIY. A couple of deer appeared about 100 yards in front of us. I snapped my fingers and Holly stopped and looked at me. I pointed at my feet and she trotted back to my feet and sat while it took some pictures. She's been learning this little trick for two years and did it perfectly today.
All of mine are different. Shadow is a definite dropper. Willow delicately licks, Squidge chews and slurps - and makes the BIGGEST foamy puddles for me to step in! Ginny sticks her lower jaw in and scrapes at it, once she's made a dent! Ah, for the narrow beak of a Podenco!
I honestly don’t know as Stanley never gets them when I’m in. I give them him in his bed then leg it out the door or I’d never be able to leave as his sad face breaks my heart
Bwahhaha - what a clever little Pig! I have a picture of Kongs flying around your living room with bits of food falling out! We puree everything - banana or cooked veges - that we put in the Kong with the exception of a few bits of chicken to make it more interesting for him. Maxx thankfully doesn't chuck them around! He will have a go then leave it for a while to defrost a bit then come back and happily slurp away.
Kong's are outside treats these days in our house, so usually for better weather. Lilly used to get one when we left for work when she was little. Would always go in her crate and wait for it. Lilly isn't a kong flinger, but is definitely a kong dropper. With a lot of chewing and licking too of course
Nothing unusual, Vanilla does this all the time. And to finish off she will jump up on the sofa or something of great height and drop it in just to get the last bit out and to make sure it is all gone. Then she has a good snooze. Only problem is depending on what is in it can leave a mess or you find things when you clean up in the most unusual places. And sometimes she will come over and have a look to say 'ah yes that is the piece I was looking for earlier. Please give'
We had the most peaceful of walks in the plantation this morning. The trees protected us from the direct sun though it was still hot walking up the hill. The whole place was filled with bird song. That was all I could hear, beautiful bird song. Odd - because we are approaching the end of TT fortnight and the Island population is temporarily up by nearly 50%, with thousands upon thousands of visiting motorbikes....yet here I was, walking in total tranquility with my lovely boy.
