It sounds idyllic. I would like to live in Scotland but couldn't cope with the early dark nights in the winter. My Great Grandmother was Scottish :)

That's exactly what we did. Well we moved here, not there. But the bonus is..Scotland is nearer now should we want to holiday there again. Been here 10 years and it still feels like a holiday, so we've still not been anywhere else  Very excited for you Helen. It's wonderful, making a dream come true.

Scotland sounds ideal cold rainy and dark. Might give it go. They must have swamps up there.

Yes, as Emily says, Cornwall is really dog- friendly. The other pleasant surprise, going in term-time anyway, was how traffic-free the roads were. I remember horrendous journeys from Somerset to Cornwall for family holidays in the 1960s, when the A30 was single lane and jam-packed.

I spent 9 hours on that stretch of road near Indian queens.
We never go away during term time ever

I spent my whole working life never being able to go on holiday during term times. The first thing I did when I retired was book a holiday in term time - bliss. I never go away in school holidays now - making up for lost time :).

Both OH and I were teachers - term-time holidays are one of the big perks of retirement!

Hi, we are moving to the West Coast, Argyll. How about you? I can't wait to explore the beautiful Lochs and Beaches which will all be on our doorstep. :) x

@charlie - I live on the west coast - across the water from part of Argyll - I used to work in Dunoon which is in Argyll. There are indeed some beautiful spots to explore. Beaches to wander, hills to climb, walks aplenty and many lochs to be swam in! Beautiful. The Islands of the West Coast are also stunning and worth visiting. Just patience with the weather - waterproofs and an extra layer required! :)x

PS. My husband cousin moved up here few years ago from Hampshire. His dad still there.

I spent my summer elective at the cottage hospital in Dunoon many moons ago. Think you will be closer to Helen than me for sure, I am near St Andrews.
