Our pup is 5 months old this week. He has been losing his teeth and I felt it was normal....yk, teething! About ten days ago they seemed to all come out at once! His front incisors birh top and bottom were first and the adult teeth are now in. Along his sides, everything from canines up to the back molars are gone. So he has thart large back molar but nothing else until his front teeth. Most of the new teeth have erupted except the ones that only came out in the last 2-3 days. So poor pup is sad and in pain, wants to play hut can't because it hurts to pick up toys etc. I figure it will pass in a couple of weeks, new teeth in, and so goes life. My husband was out wirh some colleagues last night, all of whom have dogs and have had several puppies. ALL of them said they had no idea puppies lose teeth!? That they've never seen a puppy with a tooth missing, never found a tooth out (I've found a couple around the house or garden!) and that it is not normal for a dog to lose teeth. I know they are wrong...that's not the question. But it did make us question if losing THAT MANY teeth all at once is a problem? Should he not have lost them all at the same time? if other people manage to not notice then obviously their pups are losing one at a time not a mouthful at once!
It al varies. Our first lab lost them all at once. Our second we never noticed he lost a tooth or molar. Finn our third lost them not at once, but a rather amount we have found in our living room. I remember I had to play with him at his puppy exam and he had no grip on his toy. So points were taken off, even when I said he couldn’t hold it (wubba Kong) for his teeth and molars were missing....
Poor boy! I'm no expert, but I'd go along with @Anne123, and say they are all different. I've found teeth from puppies I've had in the past but with Cassie I saw nothing.
Yes poor pup is so sad...he wants to play and brings us toys but then walks away from it after a second because it hurts
Have you tried soaking a rag in water and then freezing it? He might like to chew on it, the cold helps soothe their poor gums. My boy Pongo didn't have too bad a time teething, but he still loved to chew on anything freezing cold. Hope your poor pup cheers up soon! It is heart-breaking when they are down and we can't help...
All pups lose teeth at a different rate. With Jen I found the odd tooth on the floor but most got cruched and swallowed Generally the new tooth is underneath and pushes the baby tooth out. You could try plaiting torn up T-Towels, soaking them in water and then freezing. When frozen offer to him to playorjust to chew on. It may make him feel more comfortable - thankfully the teething business with pups is much shorter than with humans.
Yes lots of frozen knots and other things to chew on! We were just concerned with so many people telling us it is abnormal! He was sick a couple of days ago - regurgitated his entire dinner. We aren't sure why but has been fine in himself before and since. Just a one-off. BUT it was an entire meal of unchewed kibble! Truly, it looked pretty much the same as it had before he ate it! I'm worried he's not able to chew his food properly. I've been soaking it for a bit so it is soft but he is still just swallowing it.
We have several of Harley's baby teeth. I feel it is a bit ghoulish but DH has kept them and will show them to visitors...I kid you not. We have live dog right there? But @Kobe they definitely do fall out and sometimes they even discolour a bit before they do but they definitely do fall out.
Yes I knew to expect them falling out....I watched for them and have picked up several. My son took them to school for show&tell I told him to throw them out after and he got upset. I found them in his wee box of treasures a few days later and just quietly left them there. Gross. But to have so many ppl tell me they never heard of a puppy losing teeth....one person and I'd ignore it, but several?! I figured I had to double check!!
Probably better to lose them this way, I expect the adult teeth underneath are erupting. I would be more concerned if the adult teeth erupt whilst the baby teeth are still in place as this can sometimes be a bit tricky
I wouldn't worry, dogs just don't chew food like us humans. You might get some crunching as they bite down but that's about it . Soften his food if you are worried but I wouldn't worry about re-gurgitating one lot of food if he is happy drinking, peeing, pooing as normal.
That actually seems very sweet to me. I only found one of Brogan's puppy teeth and definitely kept it in a little box along with his puppy collars.
