Our 4 month old Labrador is driving me crazy she won’t walk when we go for a walk she sits or lies on the road I end up carrying her or dragging her (only for a few minutes) but as soon as we are heading back in direction to go home she will walk no problem she wags her tail and loves walking then we only go for 10 minute walk I have tried bribing her with chicken but she doesn’t care she just sits and looks the other way

Please don't drag her as it will not encourage her to walk, more likely to resist attempts to make her walk. It is not unusual for pups to be reluctant to walk in some areas. Can you take her in the car to a different location and see how she walks? Walk in a different direction? Just carry her further to a spot where she will walk? If she is stopping it's generally because they are not sure of something in the environment so luring will have no impact whatsoever. Sometimes it's good to just let them sit there and observe the world going by which is absolutely fine and then turn round and walk home. Walks don't need to have a destination, they should be about you and your pup sharing time, fun and experiences.

I was getting this the first two times I tried to walk Balder, after he laid down after going two then three houses I just said we are heading home and turned that way and he followed. Third time we went with my mom to drop something off for a neighbor and made it four house, took some talking from my mom to get him moving as she walked as, he did not want to leave the wood chips.

1st couple of walks with Alfie i drove him to the park at end of road (100m) (To lazy to carry him) he was a bit nervous but carried him into park and just waited for him to wander and we played (nice quiet park so he can go off lead and wonder as he likes) now he can't wait to get out.

Hi daisy boo, I have the same problem,my 16 week old choc lab appears to hate walking! She digs in and simply refuses to move,I have tried just waiting and letting her decide when she's ready but then 5steps later she does it again and its driving me crazy.

She's very confident and when my husband is home and I have use of the car we drive to the park where she's full of beans and chasing around after the other dogs! So I will be interested in any replies you get too.

    Happy walking

Perhaps when you walk her home...don't go in, walk on past the house - I wonder what she'd do then?
