hi, i was wondering the other day when Gus was going to start lying in and letting me sleep more into the morning. Right now he sleeps until 5:30 then out for a potty break then back to sleep until 8am which is great as ive seen that some people have their pups up at 6am!! But i was wondering when he would just ponder about quietly or sleep until i come downstairs Thanks Forgot to mention i put him to bed at 11pm & he is 11wks old in a few days
I *think* that I started weaning Xena off the 530 am wee at 12 weeks. She's 2 now, and the latest I've slept in is 8 am, but that's because a) I feel guilty leaving her alone in the living room b) my cats start getting rowdy c) I've got chickens to feed d) my body wakes up early naturally! You'll be able to start pushing back Gus's morning wee soon, and can probably start bringing forward his bedtime wee too. You'll feel amazing once you start getting a few solid night's sleep again
I think we gradually stopped the early morning pee around 4 months (she would go several days not needing it, but then a day here or there would wake us up). I then took her out once I got up for work around 6:30am and around 7 on weekends. Once she was 10ish months, she started sleeping later and could go until 8am. Now (she's 2.5yrs) she sleeps later than us on weekdays and gets up when I do on weekends (sometimes late!). She's like a teenager...I have to wake her up for her 7:30am walk. She also puts herself to bed every night between 9 and 9:30 no matter what we're doing.
Oban was 4.5 months before he could go the night without a potty break. He started out needing two potty outings at night. Jet slept the night through from the get go at 7 weeks old. Of course Oban WOULD be the winter puppy.
Pepper is now 17 weeks and sometimes sleeps through the night to about 07:00, but some nights wants a wee between 04:00 - 05:00.
I KNOW you are asking a genuine question but as the mum of a 12 week old pup who wakes up at 5 and refuses point blank to even blink because he’s just so happy the day has begun I truly hate you a little bit right now. I would kill for 8am. The hours between 5-7 (when I acknowledge that the day has begun) feel like lifetimes lol
I usually have to drag our 14 week old pup out of bed at 6.15 during the week so he can do his business and I can give him some attention before I get ready for work. But he is usually up around 7 on weekends. That's okay most of the time but it would be nice to have the option to sleep in as late as.... 8!
