Hi all! Another update on Lucius as he went to the eye specialist today. Well, he had almost all of the tests possible on his eyes. He had all the eye equipment possible while he was awake being put in his face and he was very good - no barking or growling! Such a well behaved boy! The tests resulted in his eyes looking normal. However, the vet did a test where she waved a hand in his face to see if he blinked and reacted to it, with the light on he reacted well and blinked every time her hand went near, however when the lights were off he didnt react at all! The vet concluded his is night blind but we're still trying to find out whats causing the night blindness. Diet has been ruled out as he is on a good diet, however the vet is almost certain its pra but with his eyes looking normal inside and out we are having to come back in 4 months to have more tests. He was very well behaved and had lots of fuss and cuddles and when they finished the checkup he got a piece of chicken from the vet, he was very good and sat nicely, taking the treat gently. Will update when he sees the vet again but for now it seems he is nightblind.
With all the tests @Lucius Maximus I'm amazed that your vet hasn't done the test for PRA which will very quickly give you an answer of affected or not rather than wait another 4 months and still not know for certain
No he hasn't but might need to do that. We are waiting 4 months and seeing if the retina degenerate or not.
I'm going to talk to my vet about this and see if we can do a DNA test. Then if it's not PRA we can find out what it is.
