we have an 11 week pup who we love very much. Just wanted some advice on what to do to help him relax and sleep. He sleeps in his crate for about 7 hours at night and again for a couple of hours after breakfast. Throughout the rest of the day though he only has the odd 30-60 mins in the afternoon and again in the evening which I know is too little. As a result, he gets very bitey and jumps and snarls at us quite a lot. I know this is normal puppy behaviour but wanted some advice on how to help him calm in the evenings as he just doesn’t want to! Should we crate him for a bit in the afternoons and evenings as well as at night? I didn’t want to overdo it so open to suggestions.... thanks!!!
I have just posted a similar question as my 9 week old puppy doesn't seem to sleep enough unless he has some crate time after playing in the afternoon and evening! Interested to hear peoples' thoughts.
Just to add: he’s ready to go for walks later this week which may help. We play games with him for about 20 mins in the afternoon and again early evening...this is on top of him playing/digging by himself at times. Is this too much/too little?
Hi there, lots of members go through what you are experiencing right now, and overtiredness may certainly be a factor. A quiet, dark (if possible) place to unwind for a few minutes, and less physical contact can all help to calm a hyper puppy quite quickly I've put a new thread up with some information that may help you
Alfie is 6 months now and seems to of learnt bite inhibition but it was tough at one stage. I was trying to anticipate it and take him outside before or have some of his kibble in a toy or a scent hunt. Distraction was key for me. Alfie would however nap as long as i was in the room.
