a friend of mine has a 6 year old yellow lab ,he came home from work today and he was acting funny ,he started walking sideways then collapsed onto his back and started hitting his head on the ground,rushed to the vet ,they gave him Valium
a friend of mine has come home to find his 6 y/o yellow lab acting funny ,walking sideways,then the dog collapsed ,rolled onto its back and started hitting its head on the ground he put a sweatshirt to cushion the dogs head ,he recently sprayed mosquitoe spay in his backyard but it said it was pet safe as long as it dried ,he waited until it was dry ,I think it’s pointing to that spray but any input would be greatly appreciated
I agree that a trip to the vet is essential. How long did the seizure last? Has anything like it happened before? 6 is old for epilepsy to start, so it does sound as if there is some external cause.
Your friend needs to take the dog to the vet. 6 years old is late to start epilepsy, it could be something the dog has eaten, inhaled or a possible brain tumour, or just a one off. The vet can investigate then diagnose and treat.
Thank you ,I’m worried about his puppy and he did take him to the vet ,they gave the dog a Valium and they took blood work,he told me that he put down Off yard spray for mosquitoes,I have a feeling it has something to do with that spray because when I looked it up it said it is highly toxic to dogs if not dry and I have a feeling it wasn’t completely dry thank you
He did ,he called me when he was on the way to the vet,it lasted about 15 seconds,he told me he recently put down off yard spray when I read up on it it said it was highly toxic to pets and children if not fully dry and you know labs ,they’llsearch the whole yard till they find the one wet spot
Ah, it sounds like that is the probable cause, yes there's nothing like a lab in search of an interesting - possibly tasty - smell. Let's hope the dog recovers well, scary for your poor friend but a lesson learnt I've no doubt.
My friend came home from work ,the dog got excited to see him and went right into a seizure,his wife came home a little later from the store and the same thing as soon as she came home he got excited and had another seizure ,the dog had a sonogram,came back normal no tumors and all his blood work came back normal as well ,it seems that getting excited triggers the seizures,also he said the dog appears to be losing weight,he is a yellow English at 86 lbs.

so the tests came back blood work is normal ,sonogram shows no tumors,the vet said it was also unusual for a 6 y/o to develop epilepsy but put him on medication for it anyway as a precaution,he had more seizures but noticed he has the seizures when he gets excited,he came home from work the dog ran up to him like he normally does and had a seizure while greeting him then he was fine ,then his wife came home again ran to geeet her and again another seizures where the dog falls to the floor rolls on his back and stiffen ups with his eyes rolling back
