This is the setup I am thinking of using for my new pup. The extra large crate is for when she gets bigger . The smaller pink crate is temp. I'll use it at night for her. I will put it right next to my bed . The white fence is temporary for occasional use . Like for when she needs a timeout to rest .. Does this look like a good setup ? Is there anything I should change ? I am just preparing ahead of time . I want things to go smoothly as possible . I don't work so she will not be alone during the day . When I practice leaving her for a few minutes at a time should I go right to the large crate or use her bedtime crate? Also if we do leave for a couple of hours she'll be crated , should I leave our two little dogs out with her or put in a different room ? They are not crated at all when we leave .
Hi @Jade it's a better idea to keep the puppy restricted to one area even if you use the large crate. Otherwise the puppy will use one end for a toilet and sleep at the other end. in saying that dont expect no mistakes if you use small or fenced off larger crate. Toilet training does take a bit of time. I suggest you use towels or such that can be easily washed. Good luck.
I have found that puppies settle much more happily in their crate if they can see and smell other dogs that they know. Both in the car and in the home. The only downside is that if the puppy does howl or get distressed, this might upset your other dogs. So you might need to play it by ear.
Thank you so much. This set up is not as much for potty training since I'm home all the time. It's mainly just for night time, naptime, a few hours when we go out occasionally.
Thank you so much. That makes sense. The two little dogs are pretty good so I think they'll be okay with it. When Remy comes we're going to do a lot practicing for alone time.
