Hi everyone- I am a first time puppy mom to a 12 week old chocolate lab. A few days after bringing her home she collapsed and began foaming at the mouth. She also lost vision and seemed very disoriented as she was bumping into things she usually wouldn’t. After rushing her to the animal hospital and doing several tests we found out Luna has an internal liver shunt that she was born with which caused those neurological episodes to occur. They released her from the hospital with amoxicillin pills, lactulose, and on a low protein perscription diet (KD). She is doing well for now however, we were instructed to take her for a consult at Cornell to discuss surgery which we are doing in about 3 weeks. I am unsure of cost of the surgery, the quality of life she will have post surgery, and if her 15 pound self has a good chance of surviving something like this. This has been a financial and emotional strain on me. This is my first dog ever... so I am beside myself at this point. Looking to hear some advice, similar stories, and outcomes of other dogs who have had this same issue. Thank you!
Hi Brianna, welcome to the forum. Really sorry to hear about your poor pup hope you find the help and advice you need
Welcome to the forum, Brianna. That must be so scary for you It sounds like you are doing all the right things, do let us know how lovely Luna gets along.
Hi there, my 12 week old lab bitch has just been diagnosed with this could I ask for some advice from you on how you dealt with it. My insurance doesn’t cover this pre existing condition ( even though I didn’t know she had when I bought her) The breeder is not forthcoming with any help/refund. Look forward to hearing you, many thanks.
