Hi! Adding my name to the list of questions...

My 5 month old pup LOVES shoes... and for the first time since she arrived, I have new sneakers that I would LOVE to wear...
EXCEPT... that Leela is attacking them... while they are ON MY FEET!!!!

Does anyone have an idea of how I can distract her with this? Has this happened to anyone else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!!

Lab pups are extra-rambunctious for sure! ....and I don't think ours will ever out-grow that!

This thread has been going for quite some time, and I just spent waaaayyy to long reading and giggling about some of the "love moments" y'all have faced.

So I thought I would share something that has helped me along my journey. I am a HUGE reader. I don't care how many people tell me some piece of advice, it seems like I can never fully trust it until I read it in a book.....

So, here is an e-book I came across which helped to calm my nerves, and doubts.

    https://www.healthypettips.com/blog

Check it out, it's in the side bar of this blog - I downloaded it for free and have it saved to my PC.

Don't know how many of you will look at it, but if it helps even just one person, it was worth my time to post this.

    @PetMom4Life .
Thank you for that link. I read the whole thing. I downloaded it for future reference. I'm reading everything I can to learn about my soon to be new addition.

    Hi everyone,

Monty is now 6 months old and we seem to have gone completely backwards with some aspects! He has his last teeth coming through which I assume is causing him some aggro but he is non stop biting anything in the house he can find! Stairs, skirting boards, table and chair legs. Two days ago he bit a chunk out of our sideboard. We have covered pretty much everything in deterrent and if we move him away from the area he just moves somewhere else! We are completely losing the will to live at the moment. He was doing really well before these last teeth started appearing and we thought the chewing had pretty much stopped! Does anyone have any other idea of what we can do? We've tried frozen kongs, moving him away and giving him a chew toy (he just ignores it and goes back), we've tried time outs in his crate, ignoring him. It just seems to be never ending at the moment! I've just managed to stop him by giving him a ball, which he is of course chewing, but this is the first time in about 2 hours that he's stopped!

Hang on in there Alex. He should have his full set of adult teeth within a month or so, after which while chewing may continue to some extent (out of boredom or habit) it hopefully won't be so intense. Meanwhile there are some tips for dealing with destructive dogs (very common in Labs) here on the main site. Hope you find them helpful

Thank you Pippa! He loves a ball so I've bought him a chew proof one (which really does seem to be chew proof!) and it seems to have been a good idea so far! It keeps him distracted and means he's not chewing through tennis balls so fingers crossed it'll all start to slow down now! Adult teeth are almost here I think, just 3 more fangs to go! Hooray!

Potty training: Since I do not work I potty train the old fashioned way.
Lincoln is 10 weeks old. I take him out every half hour . Occasionally he'll go but most times he'll pee the minute we get back in the house. I'm getting very frustrated. It's a good thing he's cute.
    Am I expecting too much?

OMG! My 5 and a half months puppy won't stop eating cat poo. When we go out on a grass not far from our house his only interest is finding cat poo, and since we live in the country, there are at least 100 cats around. I pull him away, try "leave it", nothing works.
Is this a phase, or is there something I can do? I can't deal with the smell coming out of his mouth after he finds those "treats".
I don't remember our previus dog being that obsessed.

I have all this to come as buddy is only 10 weeks but he is rubbing his gums quite aggressively, thankfully on a rope toy with plastic ends, so maybe look for something like that if you haven’t tried yet. Buddy isn’t so bothered about his kong but I do need to find the right stuffing as he is on a raw diet, and had a couple of tummy upsets so we’ll see when he settles.

I did however buy some antler the other day, not sure how suitable everyone thinks it is for pups but it stated on the label that it was suitable, in fact it was about the only thing in the shop that did make this claim!

Anyway I rubbed/smeared some of his treat food (which is a bit like playdo) into the rough ends (hardly anything, less than one treat) and he was at it for ages, he loves it!

Hi everyone, you have no idea how much this forum has helped me, my lab mix (labradane) is the first dog ever in my family and it has been a great experience for everyone as we figure dogs were loving but not this immense ball of love full of joy we have, his name is Rayo (thunderbolt in Spanish), and every time he bit a shoe or obliterated every single flower in the garden I came back to this post and showed it to my parents, encouraging them to be patient, that being said, Rayo is 6 months old now and while most of the "bad habits" are gone, the amount of energy he has makes the entire family exhausted, not because is annoying, but because we try to make him tired and after a 10 mins rest he's back to playing.

My biggest concern is that I've develop some allergic urticaria to his touch, either licking my skin or with too much contact, this happened around 4 months after living with him, no sign or symptom before that (that were noticeable), has this happened to any of you? and if so, how do you cope with it? I take antihistamine medication daily and that keeps it under control, plus stop playing with him if the reaction becomes too noticeable on my skin as my doctor indicated, but I'm considering getting allergy shots, I just want to know if anyone here had a situation like this.

Hi Oscar and Rayo! I can't help with your allergy issue I'm afraid, but welcome to the forum :)

My friend has terrible allergies @Oscar Ramirez . When she came to stay with me she wore soft cotton gloves when she stroked my pup.
You may not want to go down this route but just a thought.

    Update to my potty post.

Lincoln is doing great on potty training. I taught him to potty on cue. Well obviously it only works when he actually has to potty but I think it's helping with in side to.
I call him over to the gate at the kitchen (which goes to outside door) and say let's go potty. The past few days I've seen him go sit by the gate so I take him out and say go potty and he does. Yay :tail:

Scout will at times put his mouth around our wrists and kind of "gum" our wrists. He does bite and it doesnt hurt, just feels wierd. Why do they do that? Does anyone else's lab do it?

Will things ever get better, she has made me cry so much in frustration and through tiredness mainly. I am up and down every half hour to ensure she does not wee but she has not poohed since the 1st night indoors but how can I encourage her to go to the door as there doesnt seem to be one place she goes back to when she does wee indoors - It is not every day I might add.
We back onto a field so it has been great to let her out there to do her ablutions but she has decided that the sheep pooh is absolutely fantastic so help would be great.
Unfortunately, recently, we covered our grass up and put chippings down so she will not do anything in it at all. We have now decided to go half chippings and we have ordered fake grass to cover the other half - will that help I ask myself ?
This week has been lovely so we obviously have the doors open but some forums say not to as this is confusing oh it is terribly hard and I know there will be an end but at the present time, I dont see the light ...............
Any help or advice very much appreciated. Annmarie x

It will at times be frustrating. We had many of weeks with Scout and at times wondered if we had made a mistake. Hes now 10 months old and starting to go back to old ways and were pulling our hair out. But for the most part he is good. It will get better as they get older they wont have to go out near as much (maybe about 2/3 months old is when Scout started getting better). Whatch out with the chippings as Scout seems to love to eat EVERYTHING organic. I also think that like Children there is no REAL answer...see what works and what doesnt work and adjust. Maybe have a screen door so she cant get out but you can still enjoy the fresh air!

    Hello everyone!
Monty is now 7 months old and getting pretty huge! He is taller than both our other family labs (1yo and 8yo!) and weighs around 24kg! Trying to lift him into the car is proving to be a new challenge I had not prepared myself for

He is really good with the other two labs now but at the moment he is having some really strong male urges around Daisy, the 1yo. They are great together and get on really nicely but he seems to spend most of his time around her trying to violate her which is getting a little embarrassing now! Can anyone recommend the best way to train him out of this? Eventually in time we are planning on breeding them as they both have really good pedigree lines but it would be lovely if he could keep the activity at bay until that time comes

The good news is I can confirm almost all naughty behaviour has settled down, so for anyone struggling it does get better, don't worry! :) x

Chewie does this. I think when we are snuggling it's an affectionate nibble. When he is standing there with his tail wagging a certain way it's "pay attention to me!"

Mango will be 7 months next week and I'm just now starting to get the puppy blues. He is now impossible to like.

He does not stay still for longer than a few seconds. I see people with pupies a lot younger who will stay next to theyr owners and just chill. And he just runs around like crazy. Even inside, he just runs around, unless he has something to eat.
He also destroys every toy, quite intentionaly, tears it appart with joy and persistency. Chew toys are not interesting, the bedding and plush toys on the other hand, very much.
He is also not gentle with humans. He still bites when cuddeling, moves around on his back with force, somewhat like a cat. So cuddeling soon becones rough play for him so we need to push him off.
Recall is selective now, it was good (not great) before, he pulls like crazy on a leash when other dogs pass us.
Still eats everything on our walks and is obsessed with bread people leave for goats and sheep near by.

Like I said, all the hard work is not laying off. He is just not a good boy.
