So I’m wondering how long after you change your dogs food would you notice any change in symptoms for food allergies. Or food intolerances for you total dog nerds. Lol. I’m guessing about 10 days for the ears to clear up but I’m thinking the paw licking etc would stop immediately if you’ve actually managed to eliminate the irritant. Ant thoughts?
Hi I'm sorry I'm not sure about times but we decided to have our first lab tested as we couldn't get to the bottom of what she was allergic to and were worried we were adding too her problems! Turned out we were as she was allergic to beef, pork and dairy and we had been putting live bro-biotic yoghurt on her dinner to help her tum! It's expensive but worth it as you know what not to feed your dog. Good luck
Hi @Johnny Walker I'm not sure that there is a 'one size fits all' reply to when symptoms will ease. With the paw licking I would expect to see an improvement within a few days but I guess it could depend upon how bad the reaction was . Overall definitely an improvement over 10 - 14 days. How's it going?
I’m not sure as Ive been away from home since the switch. We are trying the easy route first by switching to a limited ingrediant single protein salmon and sweet potato food to see if that helps. I did some research and found it can take up to 4-6 weeks. Fingers crossed.
I had an English Pointer with many allergies, both food and environmental. We were advised to give a new food at least 6 wks to see improvements. After many months of trial and mainly error, suffering recurring ear and eye infections, coughing, red inflamed skin and weight loss we had him allergy tested. Results came back with loads of foods and pollens. At 12mths old he started immunotherapy injections for the pollens and combined with a suitable diet, the treatment, which lasted nearly 2 yrs, was a complete success, from 3yrs old until he died he never suffered anymore allergy symptoms. It was expensive but in Bracken's case it was money well spent!
