How much food do you feed Dakota now? I have the opposite concern....after reading other replies, I am concerned my puppy is undersized and I should increase his food intake.

Currently, Remington gets 9-9.5 oz of kibble per day (male, 5 months, 31 lbs)

It's better to be a little bit undersized, than overweight in my opinion. If you feel he's too skinny, just start feeding him a little bit more. But if you can't see his ribs, and you can still feel them under his skin when you touch him, you should be good in my opinion.

Each dog is going to vary in size, so it's really up to how he looks to you.

The instruction on our kibble say 4-5 cups a day for her age and size.. I feed her 1 1/2 cups, 3x daily.

Thanks a bunch Jade and Saffy :) I know that they vary widely in size, and that it is better for them to grow at the suggested rate. That is my worry. Wondering if her rapid growth could be a nutritional problem, more as in to much nutrition.. to much protein maybe? I have dog breeders, trainers in my family ( they are halfway acrossed the world from me, so really not much help atm :p). They always seemed to push the issue of making sure that a puppy, especially a large breed, doesn't grow to quickly, to make sure she's not getting to much protein and calcium to prevent joint damage later on. Maybe I tend to worry a bit to much at times too. No clue. o_O

Hi,I am the same,i wanted Isla to get the correct protein and vitamins to grow properly and at the right speed! I've just reduced her portion as she's losing her waist and i have to feel carefully to find her ribs!

We are training her and using quite a lot of treats i think,i wondered about introducing some Apple or carrot maybe instead.

We love them but they do make us worry:inlove:

We tried carrot yesterday. She just gave me a look like "Do I look like a dang rabbit?" She chewed it up and spit it back out. First thing I seen, that dog doesn't eat lol.she loves Banana. Only give that to her like maybe once a week though. Prob to much sugar, but wanted to give her extra potassium. Dakota has a visible waist..it takes some pressure to feel any ribs though. :D Yes, that we do.

That's too funny. Lincoln will eat anything and by that I mean ANYTHING.. I have to watch him every minute.

I think your pup looks great .

All your pups look great and beautiful! I’m yet to find something that Buddy wouldn’t stuff down his gullet lol I haven’t tried carrots yet but am curious to see how that would go.

I haven't found anything Kyko doesn't like yet, although he'll literally do almost anything for one piece of kibble! Saying that I haven't tried him on carrots because I'm a paranoid mother & think they're too hard for my baby :cwl::facepalm:

Same here!! We use kibble pretty much as treats in many cases for Buddy. He does a lot of training and tricks with just his kibble. And all my friends are so surprised and have asked me on multiple occasions....”wait, he does all that just for kibble!?” Got to love labs.

Haha not sure how old your pup's are but my Isla was the same, she'd do anything for boring old kibble!

Roll forward to 9 months and she's a little more choosy and we're having to think of new and exciting rewards:doug:

He's 17 weeks only, can't use anything else at the moment as he gets far too excited at the thought of nice treats & can't concentrate on anything other than what's in my hand :doug:. I keep saying as he gets older we'll have to find tastier treats for him

Get yourself a bait pouch. It's much easier for them to focus if you don't have to hold the treats in your hand. Lincoln does much better since I got one.
