Lincoln @ 5months has so much progressed since we brought him home at 9 weeks old. It's been a lot of work thus far though. The biting has much improved. Potty training is going pretty good. Right from the start we did a lot of socialization. He went to 5 weeks of puppy socialization group. We did a 5 week Obedience class. We still take him out to pet stores every week . I'm now training him by following the book " Train Your Dog Like A Pro" by Jean Donaldson. It's a great book.
Good to hear your progress @Jade. Following Jean's book will really help with your continuing training. Going to pet stores regularly is good but don't forget to take Lincoln to new environments to give a wide base of experiences
Hi jade, well done, all your hard work sounds like it's paying off. Our Isla at 8 months is still keeping us on our toes but is also much improved, although recall is still very much an issue at times! I think it takes time to learn for both humans and our pups how we fit together, what works for you both, you understand each other more. We'll both keep up the good work
Hi Jade. Glad you guys are doing so well, we'll done! I know our puppies are about the same age, and I truly feel the same. Our girl has completly stopped the biting (knock on wood!) potty training seems to be doing great, she has not had any accidents indoors in at least a couple of weeks. Just had her outside all evening yesterday giving out candy to the trick or treaters, and she did so well not jumping up on the kids. Of course there is still issues to work on, and we are currently doing a AKC Calm Canine class for loose leash walking, proper greeting etc. with her, but my fears from the beginning of our training when we first got her really have vanished. I think reading on here, all the helpful tips, knowing that we are not the only ones having difficulties, has really helped, and has truly been a blessing .
Lol they are something, aint they. The new thing for Dakota, now that she's got tall enough is counter surfing. She grabbed a pork chop of the stove the other day, and munched it down at the speed of light..Thankfully it wasn't hot anymore. We now use gates to keep her out of the kitchen. Never a dull moment
LOL!! They love their food. My Bud tries to sneak up on the kitchen table here and then to see what’s going on up there lol he hasn’t gotten a hold of any food yet, but I feel it’s coming haha
Glad things are going well. It really is nice to see hard work pay off because puppies are a lot of work if you want them trained properly. Great job!
That they do it's been a task trying to keep her out of our other dogs bowl, I have to feed our cat on top of the freezer now, or even the litter box, she would munch that down like it's tootsie rolls if she could like I said before, at times it seems that she would try to eat anything that doesn't try to eat her first. Gotta love Labs
Really glad to hear how structured and organised you're being about this Jade, that's the mark of a good dog trainer!! (Although family and friends will accuse you of being controlling )
Glad to hear it's going well! You sound like a very dedicated trainer. Speaking of "dog crazy" and "controlling," my in-laws were house/dog sitting over a weekend for us. I left them a 2 page essay on doggy do's and don't's. I felt a little rude, briefly, but then... he is my dog and they really are not up to date with training (especially creating and training a dog to walk nicely on lead), so I figure it was educational for them! I also regularly get dirty looks and mutters in public for not letting strangers interact with my dog. Boo hoo?
