Hi all! My name is Kelly. I am 25 and currently am in CT for a bit! I just adopted my pup Jackson. He is a black lab mix (I think he’s a Dalmador! I might post a pic in another thread to get opinions. He is all black and definitely looks mostly lab but has white patches with spots on his paws, chest, and under his snout. The tip of his tail is white as well.) He came from the Texas/Oklahoma area. I worked with a rescue that transports dogs in high kill shelters from down south to up north to be adopted in the northeast. Jackson was dumped in the middle of nowhere and abandoned by the people he was with originally in Texas. He is around 1 year old, they aren’t too sure his exact age. Anywhere from a year to a year and a half. But I think he is on the younger side just based on his puppy behavior. I adopted him in October. I used to have a family dog when I was younger but after she passed, we never got another because of my dad being allergic. I have been waiting and waiting for the right time to adopt a dog because I wanted to make sure I was financially and mentally ready. And after getting out of a really abusive and toxic relationship of 3 years I finally felt ready. And let me tell you, I think I was waiting for him. Jackson is the most loving, patient, gentle buddy. I call him my gentle giant because he is 83 pounds! I have only heard him bark ONCE and it was yesterday. My mom accidentally scared him. All he wants is to be near you and to love you and he always has to have his paw on you when you pet him. His tail is always wagging. Even if I’m not paying attention, he will be just standing there wagging his tail. He is a fan favorite everywhere he goes. People fall in love with him. He saves me every day, especially with those eyes. It is incredible how forgiving dogs are. Here this dog was abandoned yet all he wants is to say hi to every single person he sees and love them. He actually even cries if someone passes him and doesn’t say hi. I truly have never met a dog as loving as him. He teaches me a lot every day and reminds me to continue loving even if someone in your past has hurt you. To not let that determine your happiness. I am hoping as he gets more settled in to look into making him a therapy dog because a dog like him needs to be shared with as many people as possible. I’m happy to be here! Sorry this was a novel LOL
Hi Kelly, A very warm welcome to the forum! I'm so pleased to hear that Jackson is such a great fit for you, he sounds amazing
Hi Kelly, what a beautiful story. It sounds like you have saved each other. From my experience animals come into our lives when we truly need them, even though we may not know it. Your happiness is well deserved & will grow & grow, Happy New year.
Yes definitely. He was just placed into my life so suddenly and is just the sweetest most loving boy. It’s incredible to see how perceptive he is to when my mental health is low. They are such smart creatures. A very happy new year to you too!
