Good evening , I’ve just come across this forum while searching for help on puppy weight ! I’m a new pup mum to Buddy who is now 10weeks old black lab - we’ve had him for 2 weeks now and in that time he has gained 2kg ! The vet today seemed shocked that this was far to much in 2 weeks so I’m now a bit stressed on how much to feed him as I’d just been continuing with what the breeder had recommended - he currently has Royal Canin puppy maxi food 60g 4 times a day. Looking forward to learning lots from you guys here. Happy new year Helen
Hi there, Happy New Year and a warm welcome to you and Buddy There's an article on puppy feeding over on the main site that may help you and lots of information in this article on weight and growth. If you check out our How Much Does Your Puppy Weigh thread you'll see that there is a huge range in weight between Labs of the same age. Usually if a vet thinks your puppy has gained to much weight, it's a good idea to cut back on their food for a while. Have a look a those links and shout if you have any questions. Let us know how you get on
Good morning , I had a good read over several of the articles last night and have weighed out a slightly lower daily allowance and will divide that up between meals and training treats. I did think he looked to be on the Higher end of the weights for his age in the graph but get less alarmed by seeing the ranges and he’s not the heaviest 7.8kg and 10weeks
He'll soon trim down a bit - they are growing so fast at this age. It's fine to adjust rations according to how your pup looks and feels rather than worrying too much about what it says on the packet - suggested quantities are often on the high side
