I was thinking of something for joint support or an all-around health supplement for my 9-month-old puppy.
I have never bothered, Meg gets fed a good quality food. She’s just about 5 with a shiney coat and ever lasting energy ....fit as a fiddle, currently. I might consider supplements for joints if she has symptoms when older .
You shouldn't need supplements if you're feeding a good balanced diet, especially in a young dog. I have added in Yumove for my 9yr old dog's joints since he started suffering with arthritis but the 2yr old gets nothing extra.
That’s good to hear. Mira’s just such a rough ‘n’ tumble puppy and very active, I worry about her little joints. She's a good weight and eating the vet-recommended food, but so many of the restrictions I've read that puppies should be under for jumping and other activity...well, that ship has sailed and now I worry.
I used to give glucosamine to my labrador when he was a puppy and to my 9 year old Spitz as she aged with arthritis, this supplement helped my dogs both with my labradors joints as when he was a puppy he had a lot of joint issues and with arthritis as my spitz aged. hope this helps!
I have my puppy on dietary and joint supplements right now because of the warranty through the breeder we got my pup from. But that’s just an agreement between two other parties for more money for them so I’m done after the current batch I have. I just recently have been questioning their effectiveness. I could see the point of joint supplements more so .. but dietary ones... I have my doubts.
As far as I have seen there isn't a lot of evidence of benefits of supplements in young healthy dogs, although there are some indications of improvements in joint conditions where issues were already evident. I'm no vet, however! There are summaries of the evidence in these articles, if you're interested: Dog Supplements Dog Joint Supplements I certainly don't think it does any harm beyond your wallet though if you want to give it a go
Hi cabt remember the brand name I remember getting it from pets at home all I remember is it was glucosamine as it was a few years ago. Sorry
@Lucius Maximus No worries, I'll probably just ask my vet and see what she thinks. @lucy@labforumHQ Thanks for the links! I am worried about wasting money, especially if there's no preventative effect.
