I've tried creating little safe areas in the living room. My house is only four rooms and the bedroom she loves to stay in is right off the living room. When I close the bedroom door to not let her go back in there and try to get her to stay out in living room with me she won't come near me. She lies by the front door and stares at bedroom door. If the door is open a crack, she darts in to the bedroom. She is a very nervous dog who was abused by previous owner. She has lived with me just one month. Her first few days here she stayed right with me all the time. But now she will only stay in her safe zone. Any ideas to get her out? Treats don't work - she's not at all motivated by food!

I'm no expert dog trainer but I would say just let her be. If she feels safe and secure there that's a good thing. When she's in there just sit outside the door and talk to her. Have a squeaky toy and smelly treat like meat or cheese. Throw a treat inside . When it's mealtime put her food just inside the doorway. Maybe put a spoon of smelly can food on top. After she's comfortable there gradually move aan inch or two each day. Just give her time. It may take a few months.

Sounds like the lab has been abused. We have adopted many who have been. We just give them as much love as you can, which is quite a lot as I love them totally. Love works wonders, your lab needs time to trust more and that happens on their schedule. Try and be patient. Have you tried being with her in her safe area, and work slowly from that if she accepts having you there.
