How long does it take for antibiotics to relieve a UTI? Our house training is SUFFERING greatly. I am not correcting her because she cannot help the wetting??? She is catching on with pooping outside....
Hi @Dark Beauty I'm sorry to hear about your issues. I know it is hard. You should start to see improvement in a couple of days. One thing caught my eye. Even if your dog did not have any UTI you should not be correcting her toilet training mistakes. Concentrate solely on positively reinforcing her successful toilet attempts.
My pup just got over a UTI. If you took him to the vet and they gave him antibiotics, the UTI should clear after the course of antibiotics is over, which is typically around 7 days. How often are you taking your pup outside to pee? With an 8 week old pup, I would be taking them out every 30 minutes (sometimes even less) or so just so they pick up on the routine of where they need to relieve themselves. Sometimes you have to stay out there a while with them until they go. Of course they will have an accident inside still here and there, but if you follow the general rule of taking your pup out every 30 minutes for the first few weeks with your new pup, potty training should come pretty quickly. If the UTI is really affecting him by making him pee in doors, you just have to take your dog out even more I guess and just wait till the antibiotics kick in, which shouldn't be too long.
