Hello All, Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to a crate mat? I have purchased 5 different mats and he breaks/eats them ALL. It doesn't matter which brand or kind. Are there any that are doggie proof? If so, Help! Thanks in advance
We had the same issue and now use vet bed. It had been a month or so and it is still intact. He also just seems less interesled in it than he was in the other mats.
Another vote for vet bed! He does throw it about and hump it sometimes (actually hasn't done this for ages now I think about it) but has never chewed it or shredded it and he's a very chewy dog.
Yup, Chewie enjoys humping his bed and sometimes bites holes in the covers when he gets... over excited in the process. The great thing about vet bed is that there's no cover to rip, because once he has made a small hole he delights in making it bigger. He also likes carrying one of his downstairs beds outside to hump. He always looks so happy doing it. Dogs are weird.
I looked up Vetbed on Amazon is there a specific one? There is like 1000 different ones @Debs @Ruth Buckley @Chewies_mum I just want to purchase the right one Thanks!
I've bought most of my vet bed from ebay. Look at traditional vet bed/whelping rolls. I buy larger than I need and cut to size.
I bought a piece of ProFleece cut to the size of our crate, mostly because I'm lazy! I don't really know anything about the different brands- this is just the one I could get online.
I've got the nonslip one from zooplus and the green back one which I bought on eBay. Both are fine. The green back you can wash at higher temperatures.
We can't even use vet bed because she pulls all the fluff off and eats it. She literally has no off switch when it comes to eating stuff! But we have found that a waterproof type surface is less appealing for her to chew in the first place so we have a comfy waterproof crate mat and various old towels that we put over the top (these are in various stages of dismemberment but we can at least replace and wash them). Just in case vet bed doesn't work for you guys either, it's worth considering a different surface.
@LoopyLuna, we tried one of those waterproof mats and they are so noisy! It doesn't work well for us because Chewie sleeps in our bedroom and does a lot of squirming as he falls asleep. But I guess if you had lots and lots of towels it would be okay!
oh they really are - good point, I should have said that. It's like having someone on an air bed next to you. We don't sleep in the same room so it's not as much of a problem for us.
