Hi all. I'm upping the ante on working on Yalom's recall from distractions. In general his recall is pretty good but there are still some distractions that if we're too close to he won't come back from, like other dogs who are playing. I am keeping him at a distance from these things but want to get some more interesting treats - so far I've tried ham, beef, and cheese. Any curve ball ideas that have been successful for anyone else?

Squeezy cheese, it's magic :D Ella has a high hunt drive, so to keep her recall sharp I reward with a squirt of cheese. The hardest thing to do is to call a dog away from hunting and so far the introduction of the cheese has her returning in a flash! It's clean to use and you can keep it in your pocket!!

Wet food. Get some Lily's Kitchen or other premium stuff and take it with you in a tupperware pot. Luna used to practically give herself whiplash spinning around to run back for that. Alternatively tinned sardines or mackerel is pretty effective. We need to get back on the recall training. I've got Luna back on the longline at the mo because we've not been practicing lately and I don't trust her yet.

Top treats vary for my dogs. Bonio biscuits are the best ever for Coco - the big ones. Dried sprats are right up there for Meg. Pork sausage is also high up their list (premium butcher's sausage of course - nothing but the best ;)).

Rotisserie chicken is Chewie's absolute favourite. The smell, the crispy skin...

Luckily you can buy them pretty cheaply from the supermarket here and they also make good human lunches!

He also loves tinned salmon or tuna, which I have to admit gets pretty gross. I might need to try the homemade fish paste idea (cheese and fish blended to a paste) if I can get hold of some reusable and easily washable food pouches or tubes.

Cocktail sausages are Brodie's treat of choice - you can buy them cooked in a little tub and then take out one or two easily on a walk. The bonus is that you can really vary how much you use to reward them with!
