Our puppy is only 9 weeks old. I'm a new chocolate lab owner. I have really no clue what I'm doing....on how to train my puppy properly. I don't really know where to begin. We have her pen and her crate set up in the living room. Every time she's out in the living room with me she ends up biting our furniture and ends up biting me. She's not even old enough to go outside for walks yet.

They say even though you can't take your puppy out for walks you can carry them around showing them the world so when th st do go for walks they are not so daunted. If your puppy bites furniture then pop her back in pen. Then after few mins try again, if it happens again then wait but longer and try again, eventually she will realise that it's off limit.

    Hi
Hi I know it's very worrying in the early days that you're doing the correct thing with your new puppy.

My girl was the same, she chewed everything and also bit us all the time, we tried to channel her excitement by training sit, down, leave ect using her daily kibble amount to treat, this kept her occupied and tired her out

We also brought yak chews and Antlers from the pet store and froze Kong's to help with the chewing and biting.

Don't be afraid to pop your pup in her crate if she is getting to out of control, to rest and calm down.

Maybe get a puppy training handbook to start your off. Good luck and enjoy your puppy

Yes lots of puppy books are really good, I always had a toy in my pocket and also some of her dried food in my pocket so when either jumping or biting occurred I would throw some on floor and say find it and that would distract nicely, now Luna has half her food in bowl but loves finding the rest in the garden, so much so if it's raining and can't do it she wines lol, it also wears out the brain such is better for them

She is most definitely old enough to go out with you every day - albeit not for walks, but for a socialisation trip.

Why get a puppy without learning how to raise a puppy first? There are many books you could read beforehand to help with this... Not to mention free videos and material online.

It is normal to feel overwhelmed with a new puppy...

Really it sounds like you need to be attending puppy training classes and learning how to raise a puppy there, and perhaps having 1-2-1 with a force-free trainer in your area who can get you off on the right footing with everything.
