hi, new to the forum. i have and 11 month old lab called Toby. i am after some advice. we are having trouble finding food to suit him. When we got him he was on pedigree but was advised not to use that as it isn't very good. Since then we have tried a few different foods but he is still having runny or very soft poo's that doesn't seem normal. Has anybody else had, or hard of this before, any advice would be helpful many thanks Kev and Toby
Hi Kev and Toby. Welcome to the forum. A few things that might help: - We had Luna on Skinners which didn't really agree with her, then tried some high quality premium food but that was too rich. We've got her on Arden Grange Fish and Potato now and she seems settled with that. - Do you feed wet and dry, or just one? - Have you ruled out any parasites or tummy upsets? Whatever food you try, if there's an underlying issue then the poos will keep being soft. Good luck - hope you get it all sorted.
Hello Kev & Toby! Welcome to the Lab forum! I'm also new here, I've decided to finally join because I thought it would be nice to have someplace to share experiences, adventures, misadventures, trials and tribulations of raising this spectacular breed. My Labs name is also Toby! I officially adopted him in August 2018 and he will be 1 year old at the end of May. I was told by our vet that runny or soft poo is typically normal in Labs as a puppy because their digestive system is still developing. The breeder that I adopted Toby from told me that he was on Blue Buffalo puppy food. I tried it out but it was still pretty messy. When I took Toby in for the last round of his puppy shots our vet recommended that we stay away from "grain free" and switch him to an adult formula. When you switch out his food be sure to start out doing so slowly by doing a old brand/new brand mix (1/2 & 1/2). It's worked for my Toby when I had no choice but to switch his food because our nearby store is out of stock or doesn't carry the brand. We're currently using Purina Pro Plan Focus and I have it set up as a recurring order through Amazon and it's been working well for my Lab. Hope this helps Mary & Toby
