thank you everyone for your information. This is the best forum I have found that is really helping me with my lab puppy Kali. We are first time puppy owners. Only had her for 5 days and this forum has taught me a lot. Ive learn to change my behavior to help my Kali. It’s been an exhausting 5 days so sorry for the multiple posts. Yesterday was a better day. She was so good and calm all day. She was so tired by the end of the day she couldn’t keep her eyes open. Which surprises me since she was so calm. Today totally different Kali. She is full of energy having the terrors and not really sleep much. Is that typical?

Yes, very typical. You are the one that needs to be consistent.

Yes, when pups first arrive everything is new and the novelty of it all is very tiring for them to process. After a few days, it is all no longer new - leaving them with a lot of energy. This is why you need to take your pup out daily to a new place and just hang out in that place (not really go for a 'walk') and let them learn from what they see and hear - basically - do socialisation outings to new locations daily. This will provide novelty and help the pup be more tired at home...

Any suggestions on where to take them before they are fully vaccinated?

Are you in the UK or US? It can differ a bit. Really your puppy can go everywhere pretty much, with you carrying him or her. Get a shoulder bag and put the pup in there so they can peek out the top.

I'd suggest: Outside cafés (if in the US); dog friendly cafés and pubs (UK); DIY stores; banks; walk around towns; to the houses of friends with vaccinated and appropriate adult dogs for socialisation; and then rural areas where other dogs are unlikely to have toileted (the middle of a field, for eg); parking lot with multiple floors so you can go in the lift between floors; escalators in shopping malls (if dogs are allowed); outdoor fairs or events or farmers' markets - basically, the pup should be going out with you everywhere and should be in your arms or a bag if that location is frequented by other dogs and vaccinations haven't been finished.

Thank you those are all good suggestions. I am in the US. I live in an area that has outdoor seating at restaurants but they are frequented by a lot of dogs. I guess as long as I can keep her away from them it should be ok. One not far from my house is concrete so you would think that the other dogs are not doing their business there. I am going to have to look for a bag that she will fit in and i feel she won't easily jump out of.
