My friend bought a puppy from me from my last litter, I also kept one of the pups. We meet up to walk the dogs together who are now 8 months old. From the beginning my pup played quite rough. The walks have been very difficult as the other pup constantly jumps on her owner biting not only her but her clothes and getting really stressed. We have tried to calm her down and continue walk on leads but nothing helps. Can anyone give me advise on how to sort this problem so we can enjoy walks with our dogs together.

I'd suggest that you both go to some group training for your pups to learn how to behave appropriately around other dogs.

    Hi @Ghillie

First you need to be sure that each dog will walk properly without the distraction of another handler and dog.

Second, if that is possible, then use distance to get the dogs used to the distraction. Gradually reduce the distance between the two dogs. Don't expect a linear progression.and make sure you keep both dogs below threshold. If either dog becomes too aroused, then increase the distance. Reinforce calmness.

Thank you for taking the time to give me some advice. It has become a real problem and we just want to work together to resolve it. I will put your suggestion to work on our next walk.

There is a reason why it's not recommended to have two puppies at once. This is it.

Sometimes human goals and what is best for the dogs, are not compatible. Personally, I would choose what is best for the dogs and enjoy a nice dog-less walk or coffee with my friend.

It might take quite a few training sessions. I would not expect to get calmness in one session. Today I had two dogs from the same household in the one obedience class. Not ideal. Would be better to put them in two different classes. Not feasible. So I used distance to lower the distraction. I expect it will take 6 to 7 sessions before they would end up near each other. And even then I might need to separate them. So if your ultimate objective is to have combined kaffee klatsch, then it will take a bit of training, possibily quite a bit. Let us know how you get on. The suggestion above to attend training with a good instructor is a good suggestion. Could be fun.
