So Maggie is scheduled for a laparoscopic spay in Oct she will be just she of 1 year. Question if anyone knows. One vet takes ovaries and other vet takes ovaries and the "horns" she said it was the tubes connecting the uterus. I asked if one was better to do than the other and she replied its just the way they were trained. Anyone know anything about these horns? why they would be trained to either leave or take?
Also the one that takes horns does outside stitches and other internal and dissolvable. So one you have to go back and one you don't.

Good question...will be following this thread. Mine just finished her 1st heat cycle and will be getting her Lap Spay in the next few months. Mine also mentioned getting a Gastropexy while in there. Did yours mention that as well?

No she didn't mention it, but thats not to say he doesn't. How old was/is she going into heat? How did she do? My original plan was to wait till after first cycle but we have to go away in feb and she has to be spayed. Even if we had someone come to the house I wouldn't want that responsibility to be with someone else.

My girl is 10 months old. I would say it lasted appx 3 weeks. She did a good job keeping herself clean. I tried the doggy diaper, but she wouldn't keep it on. Luckily we dont have carpet in the parts of the house she has access to. I am thinking of November-December time frame to get her fixed. I also have a 6.5yr old Golden that had been Lap Spayed, but did not have the Gastropexy. I wasn't even aware of it then. Only down side after the spay was she put on a lot of weight. I am still trying to correct that as she loves her food and treats.

Ok so I read what a gastropexy surgery is, lol no Im not doing that. Its a whole other procedure, for me is an added risk. Also an added 30 wish min under anethesia.
Could you tell right away she was in heat? Maggie could have it happen in the next 6 weeks, before she has the surgery.

She was cleaning herself more often and you could see she was starting to swell up down there. Several days later i started seeing blood droplets on the ground and then i knew for sure what it was.

I guess the whole phantom heat or whatever they called it did freak me out a bit. I should have asked if there is swelling associated with it. I feel like she goes thru times I notice her licking more and won't let me touch her belly but nothing ever comes of it. Ill be interested if anyone answers the horn question and your gastro question. The more we know

My Golden had very irregular heats. We waited til she was 3 1/2 to spay her cause we had bought breed rights, but due to her allergies we decided not to breed her. She would go a year, sometimes more before showing any signs of being in heat.
