I want to start by saying I’m not naive in thinking puppies don’t bite and I was prepared for it but he literally bites CONSTANTLY. I’m trying to be consistent with how I deal with it in that I give him a toy to bite but he much prefers my skin and if it becomes too much I remove myself but it’s getting to the point where if I removed myself every time he bit hard then I would never be around him. Is it usual for it to be this much and will it really ever end?
Hi there, my girl was like that, we couldn't even play with her as she got over excited and bit hard. I know it's difficult but everytime Isla bit one of us we gently lifted her over a baby gate for a few mins time out, i was up and down like a yo-yo! But it eventually worked as she realised all play stopped which she didn't like. Be consistent and it will improve and then stop altogether. Good luck
I am currently having the same issue and feel like I am fighting a losing battle. Trying everything from time outs, removing ourselves, frozen bits and toys. Skin is just so much better to chew on!
It does stop I promise you. The rest of the family used to come off worse because they whipped their hands away and got stressed.Toby thought that was a great game! Have you tried frozen kongs? Fill with wet dog food or banana.
How old is your pup? It’s only been such an eye opener to see how much they bite. My hands and arms are covered in cuts...it looks awful. I’m hoping that it will get better but it’s hard to imagine to be honest.
https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/ge...ng-for-puppies/puppy-training-biting-nipping/ I found this article on the kennel club website. The bit about using a treat in a clenched fist might be worth a try.
Luna is now 13 weeks 3 days and my arms are the same. I knew she would bite but I am covered in bruises and cuts, even through clothes! I am thankful I am a cold tattie and can wear long sleeves as otherwise I look like I have been attacked. We start puppy classes next week to see if this will help her and us. I am having doubts in getting her and feel at my wits end. I know this is a phase but I don't see a way through it just now, I have full blown puppy blues!
It does get better!! When poppy was 2-3 months old she just constantly bit me, I stroked her and she would bite, cuddle her... bite... she was a little crocodile ! Now at 4 months she has started to settle down with the biting. She does still bite, she bites when excited and sometimes when stroking her she will try and bite, but now I go “AH” in a stern voice and take my hand away and keep doing it until she lets me stroke her without her biting. It’s definitely ALOT better though. So it does get better! I honestly wasn’t prepared for just how much biting there would be, my childhood puppy growing up she used to bite but no where near as much as poppy does haha
My pup is 13 weeks and is exactly the same. My arms are ripped up and a few friends have asked whether I'm self harming I have had pups before but not lab pups and must confess that I'm quite shocked at how nippy he is. However, I've now read so much about lab pups being particularly nippy that I'm not worried and know it's just a 'phase' that we have to push through. I really just wanted you to know that you're not alone
