Its looking like I will have to collect our puppy by myself, the drive home is 3 hours and I’m wondering what the best way of transporting her is. I was thinking some kind of small carrier on the front seat strapped in next to me..? I just don’t want her to be stressed, unsure whether she will even want to go in the carrier. Is this a bad idea or am I overthinking things? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Meg settled in a cat basket easily at that age. Next to you strapped in will be fine. Just drive straight home, she will probably be pretty quiet. She will find her voice later :)

I’d take some kitchen roll and bags in case she goes sick . My Gwenni did this on her ride home and has done so most car journeys since poor girl.

That’s great thank you. I don’t even know how big she will be, a cat carrier will be big enough?

Meg managed in one of the white wire ones for quite a bit....she’s an average size lab.

Might be worth checking with the breeder/where you're getting her from about her size. I used a large cat carrier (I used to have a monster of a cat!) but Cassie only just fit in it for our journey home. If you can get her on the front seat beside you, I'm sure that'll help settle her.

Good luck, exciting times ahead !! :)

A very small crate on the front seat is fine, but please remember to turn off the passenger side air bag though. Put a puppy pad in the bottom with fleece over the top. Get a bag and put in bin bags towels puppy pads and kitchen towel you may need them. Cover the seat with plastic sheet and fleece. Just make sure you allow for puppy sick wee or poo. Ask your puppy breeder what time puppy sleeps eats poos wees etc and work your journey round that. Also get them to feed less on the last feed before pick up so you can avoid travel sickness. Hopefully pup will sleep, yes I have picked and travelled with many pups. It depends on the pup some scream some sleep it's a traumatic time for them.

Lidl have a large cat carrier/litter tray for £8.99 that you could bungee strap to the front seat.Might be very distracting for you though.

I think I would be bribing a friend with lunch out first and the joy of holding a puppy for 3 hours on the back seat. Make sure he/she has towels!

Hi our friends got a soft enclosed carrier that zips up to bring their puppy home from pets at home.

I would worry that pup might climb out of anything open to get reassurance from you, which is no good when your driving.

Good luck and post pictures of your lovely puppy.
