Just wondered if anyone has had experience of this? Holly (who is already on HA food for colitis) had episode of Vomiting, blood was given 5 days of metronidazole and omeprazole, then once this treatment stopped she has started throwing up small volume of stomach juice first thing in the morning. I will get her to vet ASAP, although she is perfectly well in all other respects and is eating (and holding down) all her food, drinking well and doing normal poo. Anyone experienced this?
Throwing up bile in the morning is not uncommon in dogs, especially younger dogs. Its called the hunger pukes. You might try feeding later in the evening, or earlier in the morning. With Holly's history it might be something else, but it is not uncommon in a completely healthy dog.
My older Lab was diagnosed with bilious vomiting syndrome because of vomiting in the early morning hours; so we started feeding her a small meal before bed. Didn't really help her, and unfortunately we now don't think it was BVS because she also started vomiting and diarrhea during the day. We've had all sorts of tests done and there is still no official diagnosis. She's on Cerenia for the vomiting and metronidazole for the diarrhea and now they have added prednisone because there was some inflammation found in her intestines. It's like we keep going in circles, the meds help her, then we take her off of them and she gets sick again. She's also on Hills prescription dog food now because it's supposed to help with inflammatory bowel disease, which is the current thinking as to what may be wrong. Biopsy of the inflamed area indicated no cancer, she's had barium xrays looking for obstruction, nothing there, she's had multiple ultrasounds and xrays and so far they haven't figured out what's wrong with her. It's so hard when they are sick. Hope your girl is feeling better soon!
Have you considered feeding wet food rather than a kibble diet which expands greatly as it is being digested?
We do use the wet canned food, kibble started giving her problems a long time ago, so we switched to the wet canned food even back before the prescription diet when she was on regular dog food (Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison).
