    Hi brains trust, any suggestions?

My 5 month old pup is often really stiff when he gets up.
As he rises he often arches his back like a stretching cat.
When he first starts walking he is really stiff front and back.
It seems to come and go, but right now it’s frequent.

He loosens up quickly and then moves normally.
He is quite large and weighs around 28kg
(He was 25kg 3 weeks ago)
Ziggy isn’t overweight, he has a good body score, he’s just a big lad.

He is normal in every other way.

He is fed a large breed puppy kibble with a little bit of raw meat mixed in.
I’m thinking it’s probably growing pains from his tendons/ligaments not keeping up with his bone growth.
This is front and rear so I’m doubting HD.

I am taking him to the vet next week because it is worrying me.

Hello, how much exercise as in walk time/ distance is he getting a day ? I’m just thinking about the guidance given for pups until they are 12 months, 5 mins per month of age when out walking with us.

    Hi, he’s within that.

We go to a park a 2-3 times a week where we do some obedience training after an off lead walk and the rest of the time is at home. We live on 2 acres so he can wander around as much as he wants.

He has our older kelpie x lab to play with. The older dog plays nicely and doesn’t rough him up.

Sounds like he has a lovely space and playmate and as you say doesn’t sound like he’s overdoing the walking / exercise . Maybe others on here may have other ideas. It seems labs vary quite a lot in size, I have a mini skinny one at 22.5kg , she’s small compared to most we see even for a working lab, but still young at 14 months. Do let us know what your vet says.
