We’re devastated to find out that our not even 7 yr old lab likely has osteosarcoma. Has anybody on here gone thru this? The only way to know for sure is to sample the bone which I’ve heard is painful. The rates of survival are horrible & i’ve heard it’s the most excruciating type of cancer to have. We took him in for a limp & expected to have to pay for the usual surgery that labs need, but that wasn’t what was wrong with him according to his X-rays.
Hi I don’t have any direct experience to share but my brother had a retriever with the same diagnosis at 5 years old. She had a limp that wouldn’t go away with rest/meds. Scans revealed bone cancer in one of her back legs. This was about 15 years ago and sadly there was very little that could be done. Things may have moved on since then and I have seen stories on The Supervet about bone cancer in the leg. With a young dog myself with cancer I feel for you. Stay strong and keep us updated with any further news. Take care. Julie
