Hi everyone. Has anybody got any tips for car sick puppies? Our fox red lab Molly is 14 weeks old and is always so unwell in the car; excessive drooling and then sickness. Will she grow out of this or is there anything else we can do to help her? We have another dog so being able to travel in the car is important so she can join us as we explore all the lovely parks and beaches near to where we live! We also have a holiday cottage booked for a couple of months time and I’m worried about the long car journey to get there. Any help greatly appreciated!!
Only anecdotal but I've heard having you pup wear either a harness or dog sweater helps to relieve anxiety - car sickness. Ruffwear is a good source.
Have you tried introducing the car in very small steps. So, one day pop her in and give her a treat and don't drive anywhere ,do that until she is comfortable. Even giver her meals in there. Then increase to a small drive , maybe just 5 mins and back. Then increase time slowly as she allows. I don't think she will grow out of it, you need to slowly condition her that nice things are associated with the car, treats and a walk.
Thanks Edp. I’ve read that that is the case so I’m trying that approach each day. I feel like I’m torn between socialisation and car conditioning though - I feel it’s so important for her to go to the dog park to meet other owners and dogs, but I need her to go in the car to get there! It’s a difficult one!
It's a hard one but important to get right now or else you may be in a situation she won't even get in the car. Good luck .
