    hello everyone,

I have paid a deposit for a pup from a registered breeder. Parents hips and elbow scores are wonderful. Both parents are proven in the show ring.

However, I have learnt that a pup from the same breeder, a previous litter from back in 2017 (not the same parents) has now got Hip dysplasia at age 3.
Should I be concerned? I have had a lab with elbow dysplasia before and I have been told that dispite the best breeding, these issues can be environmental.
Would this be a red flag?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

No expert but I believe hip/elbow problems are partly genetic and partly to do with over exercising/wrong exercise in the early days. It’s why it is important to stick to the exercise guidelines and avoid stairs in the early months when their bones and joints are developing. Never heard of it being “environmental” unless they mean how the dog is brought up,living conditions, good diet etc not to do with the breeders environment unless it’s a puppy farm or similar.
Others on here may have more insight

Yes, sorry by environmental i mean the way in which the pup is raised, excercised etc in early life by the owners.

I don't think I would be concerned if the parents of your pup have good scores. I don't see any link between your pup and the one that has hip dysplasia other than coming from the same kennel.

    Thankyou very much!
Should I ask to see a copy of the scores of the parents?

Yes. But you also need to know what they mean.
