Eugh , I love Órla to bits but she’s a pain for barking in the morning , we let her out after her first “ wake up bark “ and she’ll do her business , and she’ll even go straight back into her crate after BUT THEN she’ll have little barking sessions, last about 2 minutes each and contain a mixture of whines , groans and grumbles PLEASE HELP - I feel so bad for our neighbours
Hey , she’ll go in whenever we go to bed , so say 22:00 / 22:30 or later depending on night etc she’ll start barking around 5:50 / 6ish !
This is happening because you're reinforcing it. She barks, you get up in response and take her out. The contact with you and the relief of toileting outside and change of scenery is in itself reinforcing. It's a habit that's well-practised too. Instead, you need to set your alarm for BEFORE she usually wakes up and barks. So if that is 5.30am at the earliest, you would set your alarm for 5am. You would get up BEFORE she barks and take her out to toilet. Then return her to the crate. Then you'll ignore any further noise until it's time to get up. Are you using the crate during the day? When puppies have noisy 'I want to get out now' reactions to the crate, I find it is best to do trial runs during the day - because I don't have to worry about any neighbours during the day and I'm not trying to sleep either. So I can safely ignore it all. The pup gets all their extinction burst done during the daytime and not at night when people are trying to sleep...
I think she's probably ready to start the day! 6am doesn't sound that early to me for a puppy, especially if they've been asleep since 10 / 10.30 pm. Having an early start now doesn't mean she won't sleep longer as she gets older.
I totally agree with @Joy she has slept enough and ready to start her day. She will last longer as she gets older. She is probably hungry and ready for breakfast !
Update on this , I think it was just a stage , she is being so good lately waking after 6 and then sleeping again until 7ish ! Wahoooooo thanks guys
