Hi all, So I've had dogs in the past but this is our first puppy lab, I've been really strict with her diet in hope she doesn't become a fat lab. She's currently 16.5 weeks old and weighs 13kg, is this underweight, I look at her and she doesn't look underweight but I hear of other puppy labs who are much heavier then her. She is from a working background and both parents were slim and very long legged which is definitely her too, should I be worried? She is on a good food and is always happy and healthy and wanting to play like any puppy too
Hello and welcome to the forum Take a look at this article on our main site. It includes a puppy growth chart which we compiled from responses to our 'how much does your puppy weigh?' thread. 13kg at 16.5 weeks does make her something of an outlier, but sometimes body condition is more important that numbers on the scale. When you gently press her sides, you should be able to feel where her ribs under a thin layer of fat, but not be able see them when looking at her. If you're still unsure whether she's a healthy weight, ask your vet for their opinion. I hope that helps!
That is about 2 kg lighter than Cooper was at 16.5 weeks, so not that different. She was about 17.5" tall at that age. Cooper is between 75 and 80# now and 24+" at the shoulders.
Thank you for your reply, shes booked into the vets for Monday so will get a vets opinion too. Im sure she is fine, think im just over thinking haha
Thank you for your reply, yeah we have seen a huge variant in sizes of labs similar to her age. They all seem so different dont they
