Hi All I’m new to the group and was just wondering on people’s thoughts. We have an 11 year old girl chocolate lab and we are getting a 8 week old black boy lab on Saturday we are also thinking of getting a brother of the puppy also on Saturday. My kids are all over the idea they are 19 and 15 so are very good at helping with our girl already, I am very aware our old girl will need much more attention which will happen. But I just want peoples thoughts only constructive though please

Hi Tina, welcome to the forum!

Pippa has written about bringing home one puppy or two on our main site.

My own impressions are that bringing home two puppies is invariably more than twice as much work! You'll need to work very hard indeed to make sure they bond more to you and your human family than to each other. In practice this means doing almost everything with them separately for a long time, from eating and sleeping, to training and exercise. It's no mean feat, but it can be done, and having older children who are committed to helping out might make all the difference.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do!

We have an 11 year old girl and brought home a black dog puppy 2 weeks ago. We also have a Small rescue male, four. At FirstArthur was constantly nipping Ruby, who is too placid and getting fed up. After a week, Arthur and Reggie have started play fighting — a lot! Reggie is our 16year old‘s dog and bonded to all of us. Ruby is very attached to me. Arthur is very loving with us but needs a lot of training— Ruby is showing him the way. She sleeps next to his crate and he has been sleeping through the night, clean and dry. If you have the time and energy, go gor it! You might need time out areas though!
