We have had this on and off since we had Stanley. Gave a worming tablet suggest by the vet. I was swapping his Royal Canin to Harringtons. Stopped then it stopped. Moved slower to harringtons and again got to 50.50 and it started again. Spoke to vet who has said just keep him on the Canin, might be an allergy to chicken as we were using as high value reward! He is absolutely fine in himself and eating like a piggy.... Moved all treats to fish as suggested by the vet. He doesnt seem worried and offered a paste to harden! Does anyone have any further advice??? Please??? I'm getting worried !!!
I'm sorry to hear this. It must be worrying. Not to be alarmist/worry you - if it isn't subsiding I'd suggest asking your vet to do some tests - bloods, stool test, possible scans etc (or advise why they are being ruled out). Or get a second opinion from a different vet (and some tests). It may be nothing to be concerned about after all, but if it were me, for my peace of mind, I'd suggest getting simple tests done.
I would ask for stools to be tested to check for infection or Guardia. Also don’t be too hasty to change dog foods. Your puppy is still settling in and has a lot to cope with. Chicken is often an irritant to dogs. I couldn’t feed it raw when we switched to raw.
How upsetting for you Have you spoken to the vet to let them know the issue is continuing? I'd be tempted to get a second opinion from another practice if possible, or push your vet for further testing. Do let us know how you get along!
Hi, We had the same issue with Willow. Vet first thought it could be her getting used to new home or the food we were giving her. Moved her to Royal Canin gastrointestinal and gave her a probiotic for her gut which helped her but only temporarily. After a week or so soft stools and blood returned so a sample was tested and it turned out she had caught a parasite which was treated with antibiotics and thankfully sorted. Be extra diligent with hand washing specially if you have children as it can be passed on in the case it is a parasite. I would ask for a stool test to rule it out. Hope pup recovers soon.
Hi Gemma I hope willow has recovered well, Willows story sound very similar to my pup Ollie! He’s currently on royal canin gastro since Thursday and probiotics and it’s helped clear the blood and his energy levels were better! However today he’s so lethargic! We have a vet check appointment tonight worth stool samples but just checking did Willow get lethargic too before antibiotics and did they help?
