Hi, my beautiful 7 month old lab came into season yesterday. She's a bit stressed and restless and gets very upset when I've tried to introduce puppy pants.

The problem is she is completely in love with and quite reliant on her 10 year old neutered (non related) lab brother and only started sleeping through the night four weeks ago when she moved from her crate to his bedroom (utility room). He has had a bit of a sniff of her and he's smelling the blankets that she's using but I don't know if I should separate them again overnight? I don't want to increase her stress but equally I dont want him bothering her? Or should I try again with the pants? Or does anyone have any other suggestions ?

    Any advice would be welcome.

I've only ever had dogs before, she is my first bitch.

We did not bother with pants when Cooper went through her first (and only) season. There was very little blood, and it did not really cause a problem.

I wouldn't bother with pants, the girls tend to keep themselves clean. They should be OK together for a few days yet, then only together supervised for a few days, then, when he becomes more'interested' in her, they should be separated completely. Unfortunately it will be stressful for both of them, and for you.

Thank you. She is very clean and my old boy is keeping his distance so far.

Thank you. She is keeping very clean and my old boy isn't too sniffy with her at the moment.

Our dog bled a LOT and we found the pants very useful at night.

My Luna is 11 months and is on her second season
The first one was very brief, only one day. This second one is much different and was making a mess everywhere so we had to buy some diapers. We try letting her go without a diaper at night in hopes that she will clean herself but that hasn’t been real successful. Going on the second week now, hoping it will lighten up.
    Any tips?

Hi Carrie we used reusable pants at night only. Our dog kept herself fairly clean during the day but while she was sleeping a lot of blood accumulated in her bed. Good luck!

Vet bed washes and dries in a couple of hours. Just change bedding regularly.
