Thank you in advance for any advice!

I have a lovely 1 year old male black lab. Over the past year he has had three severe ear infections and his skin has progressively become more and more scaled/bumpy in places. Our vet has advised us he has an allergy. Apparently the most common type of allergy is an environmental one which they have suggested a blood test and then an injection for. If the blood test does not show up anything then it is likely it is a food allergy which will result in a strict hypo-allergenic diet for 6-8 weeks.

There are no allergies in his family (we know both the parents) and also nothing has shown up in any of his littermates.

I wondered if anyone else has been through this process who could offer some words of wisdom etc!

    Hi there
Yes we have been through the allergy testing stage. Toby’s dermatologist suggested food elimination first. The Anallergenic dog food is just a kibble so not a problem. After 6-8 weeks with no other food, you will know if the itching continues it is environmental not food related.
Blood test we had were around £250 and get sent off to the Netherlands I think.
Came back positive to 2 groups. Some tree/grass pollen like birch, meadow grass and some mites like dust/storage.
He is 3 1/2 and we haven’t had ear infections but he has had cancer(long story) and I decided that his allergies were not bad enough to justify the treatment being offered like immunotherapy. Avoidance where possible is the way forward at the moment as drugs such as Apoquel are out with his type of cancer.
Keep us posted with any progress.
I’ll try to attach his results 7C19878B-0F87-4BDA-86AD-81DE75E572C2.jpeg
