Hi, does anyone have any experience with buying a pup from working dogs rather than traditional labs? Can they make equally good sane sensible pets? Thank you
Hi again again again. It my own opinion it's all about training the owner not the dog. Speak to trainers beforehand. Get to classes. The first few weeks of owning any pup are so important. They should be about positive experiences. Chris
From my experience working labs tend to have higher energy levels and are a smaller leaner build than the show labs. There will always be exceptions. Most labs I see these days are working strain and look nothing like the ones at Crufts. They are an intelligent breed and need brain work as well as exercise.
I have a young slim, small, physically amazing working lab. Each dog has their own personality, they are not all exactly the same. My girl has challenged my dog skills more than any other dog I’ve had, and I’ve had many. She is a sweetheart, very clever, can be nervous and easily aroused, has lots of energy, loves a little job to carry out and focus on, loves her food, ball and home comforts!
I have a working black lab, she is super bright and just wants to please. She adores her family and is the perfect family dog. We could not wish for a better family member, she is easy going and just a happy soul.
Cooper is a Field dog, and while not small, she is leaner and probably more athletic, but she can sleep most of the day, if there is nothing going on. She is a Labrador Ball Retriever.
